The scroll work is excellent, no complaints there........the stars.........

After I get something done by another engraver so I can finish and refinish the slide...I will know what the final costs will be and I will revisit the engraver...............and seek some relief......

I would have him sand off the stars and just add some more scroll work there. Plenty of material to work with. Aside from the stars the scroll work is just beautiful. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Hory Clap! That is pretty bad.
He had the gall to charge you for that?

Those stars are not going to be easy to fix. Damn shame. The rest is gorgeous.
I don't blame you for the trust part.

The stars will have to go..there's really no way to fix them at this point.....

When I spoke to Turnbull today I told them I would totally understand if they didn't want to get involved with it. I am extremely wary/leery of taking in work to fix another's screw ups...we'll see what their engraver says, hopefully tomorrow....

Thinking maybe some small medallions or just a gold circle with my initials engraved in old English letters or something along those lines.....almost anything would be an improvement........

I know you don't trust him but I'd be hopping pissed to pay that much for that to turn out the way it did. Think maybe you'll try to get a few bucks back?

I'd be flat embarrassed to put my name to that work and then charge that much.

Sure, he hasn't heard the last word from me.... a couple of customers of mine that have engraved guns from him (how I heard about him) couldn't believe he did that and let me take it as finished..

I'm a low drama kind of guy...going to focus on saving the slide for now...after all is finished I can look at what may be an appropriate remedy from him.....until then.....

    the journey continues................

Now that would look very nice. Couldn't tell from your prior pictures as the stars were too dark, but they look like they were drawn by a grade schooler. Hope the new engraver can fix it.

None of the 4 engravers I have contacted will work on the slide. All respectfully declined.......I knew it would be difficult to find someone willing to take this on, so I am not disappointed in their response. I have contacted the original engraver (against my better judgement) and he is willing to take the slide back and make it right in some way yet to be determined.....trying to keep this amicable as possible.

Spoke with the engraver today......assures me the slide will be ready next week and the work will be of the quality I will be pleased with......

Asked him for pics before he sends me the slide..........color me slightly skeptical......

The engraved scroll work looks nice on this pistol, but I am not a fan of the quality of the lettering this guy did. Others have complimented you on his quality, but I do not find this guy's work worth the money you spent. Doug Turnbull does fine finish work, but your engraver raped you.
My 8 year old granddaughter can make a better star than this guy did.
The star will have to be sanded off and the rear of the slide buffed out to hopefully match the metal finish on the rest of the slide. It seems the circle around the star was recessed. Removing it will thin the metal on the slide where it is located.
I remember when you first started this thread. It sure has been a long time and you still haven't gotten your moneys worth. Good luck as you move forward.

Contacted the engraver again yesterday.....more excuses........because of a physical injury is unable to work on it.......said he might have another engraver finish the work...............last month it was his pet that passed away...

When I started this thread in October 2018. I had received the gun back from Colt who had it since April of 2018..........So it coming up on 2 years since I bought the Commander and started it's journey.....

I absolutely hate freaking drama and this has turned into nothing but drama...............

    Deep breath........................heavy sigh..................
