    Out here by the lake!
I'm ready to leave the big city behind & retire to some place small & quiet. For years I pictured owning some acreage, but ended up to gimpy in my old age to deal with it. While I say small town I really don't want to drive an hour for groceries & I have no plans of shopping Dollar General.

Having a place to go shoot is still important, a big plus if I can run my NFA. No HOA & resonable taxes are a must. 4 hours any direction other the south of Houston are my plans. I still have friends I would like to see from time to time.

'Top of the hill, Kerr County!
Kerrville is the best small town I've ever lived close to. 20K city population, 40K county (including the town). Right on I-10 and we can get to S.A. (at least the NW side of it) in 45 min. easily. One can be anywhere in Kerrville in 10 min. or less. I live North of town off Harper Rd.and I-10 and can be anywhere in town quickly. But .............. don't tell anybody! :green:

Luling or maybe Lockhart. Seem to have that small town feel and are not totally stagnant. Lockhart has a nice range close by and HEB.

Not to mention the great BBQ in both towns.

FtW, we are better than Dallas....
So many small.towns, we have friends in Trinidad by the lake and have been to their church with them and it is nice and laid back. The commute would kill me though.
We thought about a move to Abilene for a job but it didn't work out. I need WiFi and a Wall Mart about 30 min. away and could move to any small town.

SlimJim, how much "communion" have you consumed tonight?
Haha, none. Watching some fights and typing on my phone. Now last night was Vodka Cranberries and night before was whiskey and Coke. I only drink if it is free or cheap

My dream is financial independence, and settling in a small town where no one knows who I am...to fly completely under the radar.

We’ll see if I can ever make that a reality.
But I’d be happy in Fort Worth

Close to Austin and Lockhart as well as close to Onion Creek Gun Club.

We know and like all of our neighbors and are far enough out of town that if a feral pig or other varmint needs a bullet, no one gets bent out of shape.

Where I live only checks two of those boxes, small and quiet. Well three if you count shooting. Closest store is about 11 miles and calling it a "store" is almost dishonest. No internet except what you can sorta get on a cell phone. UPS has difficulty finding it because GPS says it's about a mile and a half from here. Nope, this ain't the place if you need all those luxuries.

Check out Seguin. Your just off I-35 and close to San Antonio, San Marcos and New Braunfels. Still a small town even after all these years since I left.

    Silsbee, Texas
I'm moving to Silsbee soon. A very laid back small town in east Texas, about 6,000 people. Just south is Lumberton and just south of Lumberton is Beaumont and I-10. It's about 2 hours to Houston/Katy.
It's looking like we may get there around the first of April. I'm looking forward to getting back to small town life and getting away from tourists and worsening traffic.

Lost in East Texas Elhart Texas
I live just a few miles outside of Elkhart. The wife and I moved back here in 2005 and built a house on land that is part of our family farm.

Elkhart Texas roughly has a population of about 1100 people. We can also be in Palestine in less than 15 minutes. Which has most of anything we need.

I live in a very rural part of the county. On a black top road with very little traffic. My closest neighbor is about half a mile away.

I like the peace and quiet of living the rural life.
