    Friends,

Inasmuch as my lady & I are likely going to retire to Latin America soon, where .45ACP, 9x19mm, 9x18mm & several calibers, which are commonplace in the USA are PROHIBITED BY LAW to anyone except the military forces of several nations down there, I would like to buy a USED .38 Super handgun.

IF anyone here has a .38 Super pistol in decent condition, that they wish to sell & by any reputable arms maker (domestic or overseas make), I would like to hear from you.
(Please don't waste both of our time telling me about NEW handguns from any gun retailer, as happened the last time that I asked to buy a used firearm OR telling me to look on the Internet auctions.)

PHOTOS & PRICE by 1st email message to: texasnative46@gmail.com

    thanks, satx

What is your price range? Saw a blued colt govt model in a pawn shop (Cash America) in my area, I think it was in the $800 range. If you're interested I can get with them and see if they can transfer it to one of their stores near you.

    Joat,

NOT MORE than 400.oo, inasmuch as TISAS, RIA & several other quality OCONUS makers have them for sale NEW at about that price.

    THANKS, satx

    joat,

I'm looking for a WORKING GUN for LE work, rather than a collector's piece, as I'm pending a short-term LE contract for a public agency. - FYI, TISAS makes just as nice of a 1911 in .38 Super as any modern Colt is & the TISAS is a "series 70" clone, too.
(Fwiw, I don't HAVE to have another handgun; I just WANT one & the "old-school" .38 Super & the 1911-style handgun can be lawfully carried in the nation, where we are likely to retire OCONUS.)

    yours, satx

Another option you might consider is converting a 9mm govt model (if you own one already) to your desired caliber.

You’re fortunate to be in Texas. Lots of .38super love in the cities closer to the Southern border.

    tonelar,

We are planning to buy a "holiday hang-out" in Panama or Costa Rica SOON & both places accept .38 Super, as it's NOT a "weapon of war" & ammo is readily available (unlike .40 S&W or .357 Sig) in most places.

In point of fact, a CPT of a Latin American police agency said, "Commandante, get yourself a .38 Super & you will have no problem, as it's what we all carry."

    THANKS for your comments, satx

Maybe you can buy one down there?

    deemus,

TRUTH is that I really don't like LLAMA pistols & that's what is generally available "way down there".

Fwiw, I found a vendor about an hour ago that has NEW .38 Super RIA (ersatz Colt's Series 70) 1911- style pistols for 411.oo with FREE S&H to a local FFL.
(Unless I find a 1911-style .38 Super in good used shape, I'll buy one of those handguns soon.)

    tonelar,

AGREED 100%. = My 1st cousin has a RIA 1911- GI style pistol in .45ACP, that is DIFFICULT to tell from a WWII-era .45 pistol, IF you don't read the slide markings.
(Randy didn't like the "thicker than average" mahogany grips that came on the GI Model, as he has "smaller than average hands", so he put a set of Korean War era synthetic GI grips on the pistol. = From 3 feet away it LOOKS 100% GI now.)

FYI, I'm waiting to hear from TISAS's US representative as to whether that their "upgraded" 1911-style "Duty Pistol" is available in .38 Super or not & before ordering the RIA version.
(IF you want to see the "upgraded" DUTY PISTOL & read several owner's reviews of the improvements, check out "TISAS 1911 Duty Full-size 8+1" in .45ACP on classicfirearms.com = The price is currently 400.oo, with free S&H. - The DUTY pistol that I shot at a local pistol range is as NICE as many a 1911 that an owner paid over 1000 bucks to "improve".)

    yours, satx
