You’ve got that completely backwards. .40 S&W is far more powerful than 10mm. And the FBI statistics back that up. Double blind testing has proven than 10mm lacks the necessary stopping power for defensive use which is why the FBI dropped it way back in the ‘70s.

I’m pretty much an expert on the caliber. Recommend you stop before you make yourself look silly.

I guess the Hornady Reloading manual is wrong, along with all of my other ones.

If it was the best, John C. Garand would have made the m1 shoot it from the start

Sadly, politics of the time wouldn’t allow it. Garand originally designed the rifle for the .308 cartridge. When he brought the new weapon in for testing the military requested that he redesign the rifle to use 30-06 ammunition due to the large stockpiles left over from WW1.

Garand fought against the idea pointing out the many inferior characteristics of the 30-06, namely it’s inherent lack of accuracy and questionable terminal ballistics. But the gov being what it is refused to listen, prioritizing the ability to use up old ammunition stockpiles above giving troops the highest quality weapon and ammunition available.

9mm doesn't have to be the most powerful cartridge to be the best choice for most people based on it's availability, relative cost, effectiveness, recoil, accuracy, and mag capacities (especially in compacts) compared to the other commonly available pistol cartridges, especially if the people aren't gun collectors. JMO, and recommendation, to anyone who would ask ...if anybody ever asked...

This argument reminds me of the common old statement from the 50's, 60's, and 70's that regarding engines, "there's no replacement for displacement". Even if that argument was ever true, it pretty much lost out over time for a lot of practical reasons.

By that logic Rimfire is ‘best’ as it’s just as effective as .44Mag given the right shot placement.

No matter how it’s sliced and diced, best is entirely subjective.

Absolutely accurate! I like my little Colt Defender in .45. But that certainly doesn't mean it's the best for everyone!

there oughta be a podcast like drunken history only firearm related. it’d be endlessly entertaining.

Why the 03 springfield fires an 06 cartridge?

The .30-06 was originally the .30-03 and had a round nosed bullet.

When sptizer bullets became a thing, .30-06 became what it is today
