WTH are you talking about? You asked a question, I answered.

Polishing can be done either by hand or mechanically. If using the same materials, the only difference is speed. Sorry if that offends you.

Not offended in the least. From what I have seen with all of the sandpaper belt sharpeners, they just do not get an edge or polish as well as taking a blade to a strop. Even the “high polish” belts offered with them won’t do it.
If you have a $25 knife that needs a fast and dirty edge to it they are fine. If you have higher end knives, they will just ugly them up and not get them as sharp as doing it the right way.

I don’t know how good you could do with a work sharp. They do just fine but I wouldn’t consider than to be a really “high quality” tool. There are leather belts available for them though which would basically turn it in to a mechanical strop. I’m sure there are high quality systems that would do that better though.

    Gunz are icky.
    Agree with Hoj.
The belt sharpeners will mess up a fine blade.
I have the Ken Onion worksharp and it will wreck a blade if not very careful.
The good stuff still gets worked on a ceramic stone.
The cheap stabby stuff gets ground all to hell by the Ken Onion thing.

Heck, I can put a blade on a buffing wheel with the right compound and get a mirror finish if that is what you like. Use to put mirror finishes on handguns before bluing. Blade would not be any more difficult.

For a quick hone get an Accusharp.

They're easy to use and put on a very good temporary edge.
The only problem with tools like the Accusharp and similar, is they completely jack up your blade and you will have to spend a good bit of time getting it back to right.
With my knives being finished on a strop, maintaining an edge in the field is as simple as having a leather belt to touch up the blade if you need to. Not sure how many deer and pigs you would have to skin before they would need it though.
Went through 8 or 9 deer one day( helping others in the group who came hunting and forgot knives) and a couple of pigs. Had to clean fat build up on the edges a couple of times, but they were still very sharp at the end of that day.

But could you get a razor sharp edge that holds through heavy use, and would the polish be as seamlessly flawless and uniform as the one I have pictured?

At this stage in my life, the art of quality knife sharpening isn't something I concern myself with any longer as I'm now into Havalon (disposable blade) type knives...although I guess in the true technical aspect Havalons aren't really knives but blade holders.

While I can appreciate the disposable utility of that type of knife( I have a couple) if the Zombie Apocalypse happens while you are out hunting and fishing how are you going to decapitate or brain stab a zed with that?
