Those of you that attend places of worship are probably familiar with such terms as music ministry, feed-the-hungry ministry, housing ministry, etc. Basically ministries meet a need. Well my place of worship recently formed a security ministry where participants are licensed to carry. Some participants walk the outside perimeter of the building during services. Some participants are seated stragetically throughout the pews and constantly look for any strangely behaving people. Participants hold regularly scheduled drills on how the team members will respond to an active shooter. All parishners have been instructed to get down when security yells "down". Wow this is what places of worship are forced to do nowadays. I thought this was interesting. Anyone attempting to shoot during our services won't last a minute!

    In the woods...
I don't think you mean they are "tragically seated". Watch the double negatives as they are a no-no in English.
Remember that "I ain't got none", means you have some.
I'm glad you are worshipping in a place where safety is being provided

Hopefuly it's not just practice at a square range. Movement, longer range shooting, unconventional posistions all can be extremely important skills, especially when you have a lot of bystanders

Does the person outside have some way to communicate with the people inside?

I'm not sure of the type of range but I can bring up your comments at the next meeting. So, thanks for commenting. Yes the inside people can communicate with the outside people.

I have organised the same thing at my local church. Not just for active shooter, but fire/medical/ EMS as well. Good to have practice and make sure to keep the preacher informed as well.

I have to wonder, relative to places of worship organizing armed security teams - are they getting professional guidance on how to do so such as what needs to be considered relative to qualifying as an armed security person; what training is needed and minimally should be given to participants such as firearms training, tactical training, unarmed combat techniques, deescalation methods, detention methods, medical training, legal guidance, what to do when police arrive after a violent encounter, and so forth; which equipment is needed; communications; shooter's and medical insurance for participants; legal coverage for participants should lawsuits be filed and on and on - or are they just throwing this together and winging it on a prayer so to speak?

Church volunteer security for years was regulated by the TXDPS Private Security Bureau. It was a clusterfuck.
The state decided a couple of legislative sessions ago to get completely out of the church security business and went with more of a “shall not be infringed” policy.

My question had nothing to do with state regulation or control.

But the tone of your question seems to lean in the “ are they professional enough to carry out the task they are performing?”
Freedom is scary, I know. Stick around a while and you will get used to it.

As to training, the average rural 12 year old in Texas is far better “trained” in the use of firearms than the average NYC police officer.

You are incorrect in your assumption as to my tone. I was never a Boy Scout but always have believed in the practicality of their motto: "Be Prepared". You did not hear or see my words imply any such thing as you inferred from them. As for freedom being scary, when one of the cowboys in a circus like security team wounds or kills a church member accidentally I am sure that person or his heirs would be free to sue; yes freedom is indeed scary especially when people are irresponsible or careless in how they use it. You did not see me even hinting that any regulation be placed on them, I was wondering if they were doing it responsibly. Let's face it - there are wrong ways and right ways to do thing and when you are talking the protection of others and possibly the use of deadly force - you may as well at least try to do it with great care and reasonable preparedness. I don't give a shit how they do it, I was just wondering how they were doing it and if they were doing it responsibly. I did not for a moment question, hint at, think of whether or not they were (as you, not me, said) professional enough. Your preconceived notions about what I think have been amazingly prejudicial and totally without merit.
