    A 40 and a 9mm handgun are basically the same except for the bullet dia. Not a damn thing wrong with the 40 cal.

    Capacity, recoil, and cost per round are against .40.

    9mm has been around longer than .45, .30-06*, and .50 BMG. It has the right balance of attributes that a pistol cartridge needs

    *technically .30-06 was adopted in 1903 as the .30-03 but lets not split hairs

    .22 is not a duty caliber.

    If you jyst go out and shoot 50 or 100 rounds a year, no big deal

    But if you do 500 per month or more, it adds up real quick
    I'm willing to pay a little more each month (shooting more than 500 a month) to carry a .45.

    Capacity, recoil, and cost per round are extremely minimal, if at all. Check out each of those factors.

    Say that as much as you want, doesnt make it true.

    I've checked out each factor, and they are there. And they add up.

    9mm is the oldest auto loading pistol cartridge that is still in use.

    If it wasn't such a good design, we wouldn't be talking about it
    I believe .32acp predates 9mm by a few years.
    For clarity 9x19 is great or it wouldn't be a NATO round and so popular everywhere.

    Good point, but .32acp occupies a good little niche, unlike 9mm. So it's held on, but you don't get company after company making guns in .32 like you do 9mm

    Won't even start pointing out the holes in that logic. {You started that yourself in your post just above.}

    Somethings are old and still used because they are effective.

    Other things are old and still used because of inertia and accountants (e.g., lots of production so they are cheap).

    For self defense, the 9 is a mediocre round with a lot of company. Heck, the French like 9 mm.

    The French? Only idiots mock the French. Look at WW1 and tell me an "only dropped once" joke. They are the reason we exist as a nation. As far as their use of 9mm, they weren't using it till the 1950's.

    9mm has stood the test of time, period. Amd do you really want to talk about all the wonder cartridges that competed with 9mm and failed to overtake it? 10mm, .40, .45gap, .357 sig, .41ae, etc, even .45 acp has withered away.

    You have no idea what you are talking about.

    You can lke your .45acp 1911 all you want, it doesn't make you correct

    Talk to me about those French in WW2. Only idiots defend the actions of the French nation in WW2. {I can name call too, if you want to visit the grade school playground.}

    If you think the .45 ACP has withered away, well not much I can do for you.

    If you think the 9 mm is the most effective self defense round, you need to lay off the koolaid even if you are a fanboy.

    Feel free to have the last word.

    Bitter, bitter.

    Yes, .45 acp has withered away, very few new designs in that caliber, many 1911 makers have even introduced 9mm and 10mm 1911's to keep up sales.

    Its even to the point where many high end 1911 custom shops are starting to work on beretta's, glocks, high powers...

    The market has spoken. And it's spoken the same thing for the past 20 years. Dont get cranky at me for pointing this out

    As for the french in ww2, yes, they gave up. After what had happened in ww1, anyone with a lick of sense can't blame them. They lost 4% of their population in a few years. Thats not insignificant

    Yes and no.

    9s and 10s came about due to Demand. And yes, they help with lost sales due to dilution, not True lost sales. There used to be only a handful of 1911 makers and there is a plethora of makers.

    ‘Again, just like my example in the previous post; because of the huge popularity of the 1911s, there is an increase in custom shops stealing sales away from Wilson, Baer, Berown, etc. That’s why they have to make up for lost 1911 work, not because 45s or 1911s withering away.
