Does anyone know how politicized the top brass of the guard is? Politics up and down the chain of command could have an effect on how well things are enforced.

Then again, there is a history of the national guard shooting innocent civilians when they've been called in to act as police. Perhaps since our military in general seems to be more of a global police force these days, training has changed and the guard is more equipped for police action rather than combat action.

If it comes down to all out confiscation and armed resistance, it ain't going to be pretty for anyone.

...Let us hope that if they do pass that SCOTUS will step in...

Unfortunately, someone will need to be injured in order to appeal.

If anything, this thread should be a motivator for all of us to engage with our state Reps and Senators on the topic.

The top brass of anything is politicized.

I'm pretty sure the Adjutant Generals of the National Guard are appointed by the Governor of the state. The governor of VA has probably selected an AG with the same political leanings as himself. Even so, I don't believe they will be calling up the National Guard. That was more or less just a dumb suggestion by one of the VA state legislators. Kinda like Swalwell's threat to use nukes to confiscate firearms.

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the State of (STATE NAME) against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the Governor of (STATE NAME) and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to law and regulations. So help me God.
Thank you for posting that. I did also think that the "defend the Constitution" part was in there, but it's good to see the whole oath. And there are "Oath Keepers" in LE that take it seriously, I believe. I am grateful for them.

I think it would be a very difficult choice for a LEO if a Governor gave an order that was in obvious contradiction to our Second Amendment. I like that it includes "..according to law and regulations."

So, a gov that issued an unconstitutional order would be in violation of their own oath and should be removed.

If anything, this thread should be a motivator for all of us to engage with our state Reps and Senators on the topic.

    I hope you don't think that's likely.

I was born at the end of 1970, so all I know about this is what I've watched in documentaries or read about. I don't have 1st hand knowledge of what the attitudes were for different folks during this time.

As I see it, the National Guard then was made up of, what some may say as, 'good - 'ol boys'. They were enforcing American values on some sectors of society (college campuses and inner cities) that did not hold to those values (one can also see the Democratic Convention in Chicago). The incidents of police and National Guards cracking skulls and, in some cases, taking lives was a result of that culture clash.

Today, I think National Guardsman and Police have pretty much the same makeup as 40+ years ago. We are again dealing with a culture clash, but this time NG and police would be dealing with citizens that hold the same values as themselves. I don't see them cracking skulls of some country boys in order to take their guns....I think, just like their fathers and/or grandfathers, they would perhaps love to crack some skulls of the snow flake pansy college crowd though.

Definitely some truth in the second paragraph.

I can't really say whether or not today the NG or LEO's on the whole (not referring to anyone here) share the same belief in the 2A that those on this board do.

Sounds like the guard may be ok with enforcing a law

The Virginia National Guard released a statement on Friday in response to questions about whether they could be deployed to enforce Democratic lawmakers' gun control agenda.

Actually, the NG does not say one way or the other.

It doesn't look like the Dems are backing off. If anything, they are doubling down and filing more anti gun bills that are even more ludicrous.
