Haven’t done much in a while but got a gift card so decided to try some new bullets for the .50 and ordered a box of Barnes 750gr TAC-LR.

Loaded 5 rounds in Lapua brass over 235gr of Reloader 50. Brass was sized and trimmed but otherwise unprepped. Hadn’t even cleaned it since it’s last firing.

Pulled the 4th shot and I knew it before I even looked to see where it hit.

I started into my "clear the floor" project but figured I should clear the benchtop first.

i had a bin full of processed, ready2load(my new labeling on ammo cans)556 brass so i started on some bullets i got online. Surprise #1: they were fmjbt as opposed to SP; surprise #2: they weighed 62; not 58 nor 63. I read the little bag-Hornady from Grafs.

I'm guessing they will be spot on; as on as my old eyes can be.

I wish I could afford to feed a 50... Let alone the 50 itself. Maybe someday when the kids are all out of the house. 13 years and counting!

But for reals though. Last night I pulled 15 450s from the last batch. I over crimped them by mistake when. I tried to tighten the lock ring on the collet crimp die. I reloaded them and made sure the crimp was right before blindly running them all through this time.

I also sorted some of my ready2load 7-08 brass. My brother in law will be in town soon and that gives me an excuse to go to the range for a while. I can set him up with an AR while I do some load tests on the 7mm. I've been using imr4064 and when I tested varget it wasn't the best. I'm going to revisit the varget though because I have 5# of that sitting around and only 1/3# of 4064. Maybe I'll get lucky and find something that works well enough. I'll load them tonight. Going to load some more 243s for the wife's rifle as well to take out so he can try those.

I have some 225 68gr bthp match bullets. I know I need to work up a load for the 223 bolt gun but I've been dragging my feet. Might try something there as well. This all gives me an excuse to use the magnetospeed as well..

Put together 20 450bm, 50 7mm, and 21 243. Ran out of 243 bullets or I would have done more. Figured up some new loads for the 223 match bullets. Might load those tomorrow.

Brad Martin, what distance do you shoot? Is the concentricity tool used for distance shooting(1000+)?
I’ve been hitting at 1,000 at my local range over 50% of the time. I bought the gauge to check case neck thickness for a bushing die. Decided to check the runout on the Sierra 175gr in Lapua brass that I had already loaded. The better ammo I can put together the better I can do. So to answer you question it would be for anyone wanting to improve accuracy.

I actually accomplished something this time.

Oh, besides making the drive from Dallas to Cypress at 95 mile an hr without a ticket but the poop would have had to write a lot more before they'd want to bother with me. AND I think my speedo is off since I passed one(he was perpendicular to me)at 85 and he didn't even chirp the sirens or nothing.

I migrated all loading festivities to my head bench leaving my light bench for the laptop and lunch!

I'll try to post pics but don't hold your breath.

To check case neck thickness properly you need a ball mic or easiest way is to measure a loaded round with calipers then subtract 0.002 off the number and order a bushing.

The 6.5 Grendel really seemed to like the 90gr TNTs. There wasn't a single load that I tested that I wouldn't be happy with. 32.3gr of CFE223 seemed to be the sweet spot though. I pulled the first shot a bit, but the other 4 ended up in a 0.46" group at about 75 yards. I'll take it, lol.

The worst group of the bunch was 0.97".

The only issue I have is that the mags don't seem to like that bullet. They're 18rd E-Lander mags. They're fine if you only load 10 rounds. Otherwise, the bolt has a tendency to skate across the top of the top round and jam it into the front of the receiver. I have a couple rounds I need to disassemble because it pressed the bullet way into the case.

I didn't have this issue with the Hornady Black (123gr ELD) ammo I bought with the upper, though I only had enough of it to fill one mag. I haven't tested the 123gr SST yet. It's profile is pretty similar to the ELD's, so it should hopefully work.

I'll probably buy some more mags to try. It's a target/hunting rifle so 10 rounds isn't that a big a deal if push comes to shove.
