I cant count how many times I have almost had my rear bumper smashed because I do stop at stop signs.

And if you think stop signs are petty failure to signal with almost no traffic and then getting written for it at a cost of 350 bucks. now that is petty.

I know the cop just wanted to sniff for pot I am not sure why he wrote me I am never a jack ass to the PoPo.

Great... now she's going to be one of those people who stop and then count to 10 before moving.

When there are other cars at a opposing stop signs, I count to three rather quickly, then I go.

Otherwise it becomes an unending game of -
    “You go”
    “No you go

I only wrote stop sign tickets if it was clear to me the operator would not have been able to fully stop at the proper spot even if a full stop wasn't made . If it was clear the intent was to stop if necessary then I left it alone. I am talking about those barely moving situations
Per policy it is faster than "walking pace" to issue a ticket without any other contributing factors.

In the absence of a stop line, the operator shall stop at the place nearest the intersecting roadway where the operator has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway.
Wow. At some badly maintained intersections I've seen, that could mean stopping 10 or more feet past the stop sign. :)

Back in the dark ages when I was working for the USPS we told every one driving a USPS vehicle to come to a COMPLETE stop and do a three count.

Then we'd go out on driver observations and tag about 50% of them for rolling through a stop sign. Then they had the fun time of going to the remedial driver training program that I helped write and instruct.

We actually fired 2-3 drivers a year, out of over 1000 in the area, for failing to stop.

We had one station where the city put in red light cameras at the main intersection coming into the station. In the first week 80% of the carriers at that station had received a ticket. That included four stupidvisors in postal vehicles.

A farmer in an old Ford pickup rolled through a four way stop intersection, out in the county where it is flat and there is no obstructions to block his view of any traffic approaching the intersection from any direction.

There was a "new to the area" DPS trooper patrolling the area, and saw that the farmer did not come to a complete stop.

The Trooper pulled the farmer over, got out of his Crown Vic, and approached the driver side door of the pickup.

The farmer asked the Trooper what he did wrong, and the Trooper stated, "You did not come to a complete stop at that stop sign back there."

The farmer said, "I could see clearly all around, and I did slow down to give myself time to be sure that no one was coming from another direction before I went through the intersection."

The Trooper said, "You were supposed to come to a complete stop."

The farmer insisted that he slowed down enough to safely continue through the intersection.

The Trooper replied, "You were supposed to stop."

The farmer said, "But I slowed down!"

The Trooper said, "You were supposed to stop!"

The farmer asked, "What's the difference?"

The Trooper pulled out an ASP and started beating the farmer about his head and shoulders, then the Trooper asked the farmer, "Do you want me to slow down, or to stop?"

    I know; booo!

I have actually known a couple of DPS Troopers that I would not be surprised if I learned that they actually did something like this. I'm not saying that they did, I'm saying it wouldn't surprise me to find it out.
