    Ok. Back to logic.
    Gotta have water.

    Its gotta flow.

Gotta have air to cool it down.

Im always leery of the thermostat. I say remove the thermostat, drive with out it. Fill with water after starting but before driving because it will afford you immediate flow through the engine so it insures the water side of the equation also. Rev engine (while observing inside radiator) will insure the water pump is actually doing its thing too. Dont get any on ya.

If it overheats then it doesnt have (water) or airflow. If it doesnt? Well then.

I know.....we're chasin after new parts now.

Without starting this elimination process over again it seems like the only thing you didnt do is flush the block out. Everything else is new.

Running without a thermostat can be a problem though. If the coolant runs through the radiator too quickly, it won't cool down. The thermostat slows down the coolant flow so it can lose heat through the radiator.

I am sure it is running at higher RPMs when being driven. Is that why it would overheat while running, but not while sitting still for twice as much time? I wonder if it would overheat if I left it running longer than 30 minutes.

The thermostat is in line with the radiator hoses and is how the water comes from the bottom of the radiator.

You can put your hand on the radiator hoses and feel the flow. Just use a rag or something so you don't burn yourself. That is if you have flow. Electric fan may be wired backwards or not coming up to speed.

Wiring for the fan is a harness and can only connect one way. I may put the original harness back on it to see if it is a faulty harness.

Have not driven it really except to test drive it. The instrument cluster does not work, so I do not have a temperature gauge. I can send it off for repair for $125. It is really a backup vehicle/farm truck, so not a real high priority. Check engine light came on, so got codes read at two places. Some of the codes may be because of the instrument cluster.

One of the guys at AutoZone said the head gasket may be blown. Considered getting a test kit. May just bring it somewhere for diagnosis on Saturday.

That p0483 is telling. Indicates the pcm can’t trust that when it turns on the fan that it’s actually running. Not positive but I think it’s looking for a voltage drop.
