At some point they were using Dorco Blades. I just buy the Dorco direct from AmazonMy wife got me hooked on the Dollar Shave Club. Very reasonable and a good shave. Blades are good for about 3 or 4 shaves. And, you get a box of 4 disposable shave heads.
I shave once a week and can generally get about 2 months out of a blade with my safety razor.
Try something with feather blades. They last pretty damn wellYou might wanna get your testosterone levels checked. I mean I shave about once a week and look rather scruffy by Friday. But I only get a single use out of the blades. It's like I'm shaving off steel bristles.
There are many types of razors, and mainly it depends on the whiskers and facial sensitivity, and the blades mainly determine that. I use the Merkur 39c, more because of how it shapes the blade in the razor. Out of the different types of blades I've used, I have found that the Feather blades have worked the best for me, but one should find out what works best for themselves. I will say that I'm disappointed in myself for having bought into the cartridge razors for most my life, since I now believe safety razors have a better shave, and cheaper in the long run.Been doing a little comparison between a Viking Chieftain and a Merkur 34c. Didnt realize blades made such a difference but I've decided the Viking is more aggressive. ()
Same blade in each (Astra Super Platinum)
I can make a cross grain pass with the Merkur and its smooth as can be. Same pass with the Viking I can feel and hear it cutting.
Viking the clear winner but I'd like to try a longer handle.
So it seems the Vulcan is Viking's longer handle offering. Has anyone tried a Vulcan? Is it as aggressive as a Chieftain?
At first when I switched from disposable razors I went with a straight razor (Dovo). Occasionally I will use the Dovo, but that takes a much more involved ritual, and upon waking and getting ready for work, I'm not at my best for that.I started shaving with DE safety razor, an old Parker I inherited from my grandfather.
Marriage, kids, life happened and sadly it seemed there was no time for a mug & brush. Let the pace push me into the "quick, convenient, disposable" shave.
One day while hurriedly scraping my face with a plastic piece of crap I recalled the zen of whipping a warm foam and methodically removing the whiskers.
Returning to that ritual makes a big difference in the start of my day not to mention the far superior result.
I like Feather blades but always up to try something different in the endless quest for the perfect shave.
Those feather blades are something else. They make for a really nice shaveBeen safety razor shaving for 7 years now. Started with a Gillette NEW from 1931 that my dad gave me. Either it was old when he bought it or he got it from his dad. I used it with Astra blades.
Switched to a Muehle R41 for Sundays and a Merkur Slant bar 37C. Still use Astra and Derby blades and I get a reasonable shave.
Badger brush and Proraso followed by a slap of Clubman does the trick reliably.
I'm too chicken to go with Japanese Feather blades but maybe one day.

By the way, as far as I can tell, Harry's is not owned by one of the big razor companies.
