I must have been slipping, or maybe just slowed down due to my separation and move, when it came to buying guns this past year. Last year I bought a total of 25 guns as best I can figure by way of a quick glance at receipts. All of those from an auction house. This year, I've bought only 17 - 13 from a live auction house, two from an online dealer, one via GunBroker and one from a forum member on this forum.

Of course, I have had a lot less money coming in since I separated from the wife because I am giving her half of my pension; then again, I have more money by far in the bank than ever before thanks to half of the proceeds of the sale of our house in NY. I suppose though - more than anything - the slowdown in my firearms purchases has been due to the fact that I cut back on my visits to the Hessney Auction Company's firearms auctions in upstate NY because of my move out here due to the separation. I have still been bidding online but it's not the same as going, to the auction preview and then the auction, in person. Thus, I'm not as likely to bid as much as if I had I seen and handled the gun at the live preview/auction. Come to think of it though, in 2017 I think I only bought 13 guns or thereabout; maybe last year was a bumper crop so to speak.

Anyway, it's time for me to find an auction house here in Texas, that holds live auctions about monthly or more frequently and that sells lots of guns & ammo & such and that is within about 300 miles from me (same distance I drove each way to the Hessney auctions I attended). I usually find live gun auctions to be better places to buy what I want than a gun show because better deals are more likely to be had for the informed bidder but that is only if I do my homework and then only if I bid wisely. If I find an auction house here in Texas half as good as was Hessney, I will be a happy man. Anyone have any suggestions?

Well, they sell them, just evidently not at live auctions. I mean, there are several gun shows just about every week throughout the state so I guess that explains why I have not been able to find any gun auctions, all the guns are at the gun shows. I suppose those interested in auctions can attend a cattle auction if they want, not my cup of tea though.

Last firearm auction I went to the guns sold for up to twice what they were worth. Bunch of guys with deep pockets filled that room. Funny thing is they thought they did good.
