Be careful about what medicines you take and do research.

Several years ago a good friend's son took his own life while serving in Iraq. Since I knew the young man, I just never could wrap my head around how he could become so despondent.

Fast forward some years later and my daughter was feeling depressed, saw a doctor who promptly put her on anti-depressants. Now I'm researching this stuff and finding out all the horrible facts about the crap and especially about young people that suddenly stop taking it. Being financially strapped, she couldn't afford to visit the doctor so her refills would be approved, she was looking at having to stop "cold turkey". Fortunately, she had the sense to "taper off" gradually, having anticipated what was coming and managed to stay alright.
I don't know if my friend's son had been prescribed anti-depressants while in Iraq, I have no idea whether the military's policy at the time was as cavalier as a lot of civilian doctors.

When some kid shoots his classmates, it's publicized forever and lot's of times we find out about depression and medication. When someone commits suicide, the news story disappears as fast as it appears and we really never know if anti-depressants were a big part of the tragedy.

Sorry for being so long winded.

    Define "deal with".
I have personally known several that have have. Other than I won't be able to enjoy their company anymore, or to wonder how they could be that vindictive or weak, they have not made any noticable difference in my life.
I remember enough about childhood to at least somewhat understand how kids can feel that helpless and hopeless, but not adults.
Enough said about my personal thoughts on suicide. They would just start a bigger fight.

Shooting your self to death? No imagination in that. No style or flair.

Back in Phoenix there used to be a big pawn shop downtown called the Jewel Box with guns tools and sharp things, all items could be used to kill your self.

One day a guy walks in and passes the guns and ammo etc and goes to the tool section. He asked for a power outlet to try out a skill saw before he bought it and the manager pointed to one at the end of the table on the floor.

The guy plugged the skill saw in and proceeded to attempt to cut his own head off! I sheit you not. He almost succeeded in decapitation as he started in front and pushed all the way to his spine in an instant and then fell dead.

Now that's style, Memorable and flair. This happens in the 70s and people still talk about it. Shoot yourself and meh. Cut your own head nearly off and get full points for effort planning dedication and execution. No pun intended

Dark humor is how people deal with dark experiences. It says nothing about anything or anyone except that.
I got a better style story for you.......think I may ave posted it here once before.

Friend of a friend.....lost his wife....lost his business......IRS into him for about $40 K......he decides to liquidate most of his assets, but gets a couple of new credit cards......rents a car.....comes to stay with my buddy (his high school friend)....buys a few guns, some musical instruments, a big screen tv..........goes to iFly a few times. Tells my buddy he is gonna road trip it up to Yosemite for the weekend..........He hikes to the top of Half-dome and jumps off without a BASE rig. Turns out......he went to iFly to learn how to track.....a few climbers on the face figured it was just an illegal base jump......NOPE......he tracked onto the meadow 3500 ft. below and left a red streak.

THAT is going out in style. The coyotes and bears just clean up whats left.

Also know someone who quietly ran a hose through a bedroom window from his truck exhaust......that just about killed his family.

I replied to majormadmax who made it sound like most of us have never dealt with a suicide. Your amount of "deal with" varies from others but my point is that I guess with the exception of Vaquero apparently, most have someone close to them commit suicide.
As I stated earlier, not all suicides are FUs but this one at the range seems like it is. Let's say I am wrong and it isn't, it still is pretty selfish of them to do it where the general public and kids are at.
To imply that all suicides are only internal and personal and are never FUs as majormadmax does seems a bit naive.
In some cases it is a pretty fine line between suicide and their rage and their rage to commit murder.

Right, you've just joined the forum and within less than a week, and you're now our resident expert on suicides!

I never said suicides never FUs, but you implied the majority are and that is simply not the case.

But don't bother responding, as we have this wonderful ability to ignore people on here and most of the time I use it to avoid reading idiotic posts.

Actually, a lot of people do not have someone close commit suicide. Someone they knew or knew of, maybe.
Other than immediate family members, assuming they are not runaways and family knows of their whereabouts, most who knew them won't have to that have to "deal with it". Just their own emotions because of it.

By chance did you have someone commit suicide? You sound like you are trying to justify something.

    Gunz are icky.
Recently our family experienced a suicide.
Drove his vehicle out to middle of nowhere.
    Pulled off the road.
    Shot himself.
Wasn’t found for a couple of days.

    We’ve no idea why.

    God. This thread is depressing.
I’m gonna go eat some nice breakfast tacos and go to the range later.
    Y’all need more range time.

    Me too.

I knew a few guys in high school that died doing really stupid things but don't think they were really suicides. Alcohol was involved in both.

Not trying to justify anything. I have knowno two co-workers that offed themselves and 2 on my wife's side. Madmax didn't answer my question so I will ask you, was going to the range and offing yourself a selfish act with a message? I would rather someone do what your friend/relative did than what this guy did.
