I figured that was it. Had that problem before. One of the reasons I buy AR barrels and gas block together and have the company install it.

When I mounted the Eotech that @Moonpie sent , the POI is perfect left to right and it is only 8 inches low @100
It took about 3 shots to adjust the hold and start smacking a 6" steel target

Guys I am happy to report that Project AFAR is a 100% success.
The Airman came out today under the assumption we were just going to hang out and shoot some guns.
We handed him the project gun and he took to it right away. Banging the 100 yard gong at will. He loved it.

Then as we took a break from shooting, we were able to capture this video of the presentation.
The video says it all...

Thanks to everyone one of you that had a part in this. It was a team effort and I can tell you it was much appreciated.
