She had a baby at 15, and by many reports was rather promiscuous, and may have in fact been having a consensual sexual relationship with Reed, but there is no doubt to me that he killed her. His DNA was the only DNA identified, and it was identified because the DNA matched another woman that was similarly attacked but survived, and later tied to Reed.
    There is no new evidence!

Since were discussing individual humble opinions here, it's my opinion that too much bigoted bullsheit is ignored and allowed here. I'm not saying ban people I'm say they should be called on it and then become irrelevant. IMHO ofcourse.

I'm all for free speech. It helps the rest to know who not to waste time on.

You do know that they never took a DNA sample from the belt that was used to kill her, right?

I’m pretty pro capital punishment, but I also work with a guy who grew up in Bastrop, and I grew up in Houston.

There is more than a reasonable doubt that this is really a setup by the badges protecting one of their own.

    The stay is justified.

You do realize that you can kill without DNA transfer, correct????

As long as humans are involved, nothing will ever be 100% foolproof. So should we never convict anyone of any crime because "it is better 100 guilty Persons should escape than that one innocent Person should suffer, is a Maxim that has been long and generally approved.”?

Capital punishment cases go through extreme reviews. But again, they will never be 100% perfect. Humans are involved in every step of the process.

DNA extracted from three sperm found in Stites' vagina and saliva found on her chest matched to Reed with a probability of approximately 1 in 5 billion. The State already had his DNA from a 1995 sexual assault where Reed was identified as the assailant, but he was never charged in that case as the victim later decided not to cooperate with the police. She had been Reed's alleged girlfriend at the time.

The Stites case against Reed rested heavily upon the DNA evidence, but he admitted he was having an affair with Stites and that they had consensual sex the day before her death.

Reed was already in jail on a cocaine charge when he was charged with Stites' death.

Upon his initial questioning by police (before learning about the DNA evidence), Reed denied knowing Stites outside of what he had heard in news reports.

According to prosecutor Lisa Tanner, DNA evidence was taken from 15 suspects (including Stites' fiancé and individuals who allegedly confessed to or bragged about the killing), which eliminated everyone except Reed as the source of the semen.

Reed was convicted on 18 May 1998 after a jury deliberation of six hours, and was sentenced to death on 28 May 1998 after a deliberation of four hours. Prosecutors pushed for the death penalty by arguing that Reed was likely to pose a danger in the future based on a history of similar previous charges.

Reed appealed unsuccessfully nine times after his conviction on grounds of ignored witnesses and evidence that may have raised reasonable doubt but was not handed over to defense attorneys because prosecutors claimed that it was irrelevant. In the weeks preceding Reed's scheduled execution date, celebrities such as Kim Kardashian West, Rihanna, Meek Mill, Pusha T, and Seth Green publicly urged Texas Governor Greg Abbott to exonerate him or stay his execution; but ultimately it was the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles unanimously recommended that Texas Governor Greg Abbott grant Reed a 120 day reprieve. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals also stayed Reed's execution to review his case.

I don't believe the simply outcry of his or some worthless celebrities warrants a stay of execution, but if the state isn't 100% of his guilt than it makes sense to delay it until such time as all such matters have been resolved to the state's satisfaction.

I read through the Heavy article.

It seems the biggest issue is the claim that the time of death was wrong and she was actually killed before midnight when she would have been at home with her fiancé.

Her fiancé was a piece of shit. His 10 year sentence was pathetic and it appears the department had swept several of his sexual assaults under the rug already.

I don’t know who did it. The girls promiscuous lifestyle doesn’t make figuring it out any easier. I do think it warrants another look.

He's already been given a fair trial.

    Adios MFer!

Was it a fair trial if the time of death was off by 5 or 6 hours?

Personally, it sounds like both her lovers were pieces of shit. But if the fiancé did it I want him held accountable.

Other guy can then go to trial for the other crimes that had evidence of his involvement.

Well, to be fair, if you were a 20something year old black guy, would you admit to knowing the fiancée ( who you happen to be banging)of the white , redneck cop with a violent temper ?
    This.......

Listen....Rodney Reed is no saint, but the fact is......there is sufficient doubt of Reeds guilt in this case and evidence that was not considered previously, to grant a new trial.
