That looks like PU (polyurethane) leather. Are Justins now made off-shore, as in China or India?
Not to keep beating this horse but my Justin’s are regular leather from the side seams to the front. Still wear them cause nobody can see the backside while they are being worn while wearing long pants

Yep but Justin’s, Are Crap; exceptions their bent rail collection, had a pair last 7 years. (dancehalls and dates wore that leather outsole down)

Double H-Motorcycle Boots(Premium Boot, drawbacks are unlined leather Welt, and very stiff leather hard, takes a while to break in. Resole able, and the current outsole is very grippy, even on hot asphalt, or tar lines.

I still wear a pair of boots I bought when I was ~20. I wore them riding a motorcycle for quite a while back then, although I wore a "rubber" on the left boot, to protect it from the shifter.
Obviously they've been resoled many times.
I just take care of my $hit.

Link to boot "rubber", this is similar, except mine had a zipper....

Years ago I had a pair of Hyer's boots. From the last run of hand sewn production boots the made. Now out of business but lasted clse to 40 years. Resoled and reheeld many time. Wore them on the ranch in Colo. Wore them at my wedding. Wore them them all over the world except nam.

Finnally the uppers literally rotted off. I miss those boots.

Heyer's was out of Olathe Kansas and claimed to be the first cowboy boot maker in the US. Don't know about that, but the were damn good boots. They were expensive back then, about 100 bucks on sale at the factory as I recall.

Now I have no need for boots, but I really want a pair.

I have a pair of Justin Ropers I bought in about 1985. They were worn daily until I retired and now they are my dress-up boots. Still in good shape.

A picture of my wife's latest pair of boots when she picked them up in June 2017. Made by Mercedes Boot Co. One has the VFW Auxiliary logo on it with TX and US flag. The other has her logo for her year as State President and her initials. The back side is reversed and the ears have the years 2017-2018. I expect they will outlast both of us.

I've got a couple of pairs of dress boots, but want a set of knock-around, every day Western boots - leather soles, stacked heel, pull-on, preferably brown leather.

I have a high instep, so I need to try on different brands.

Do I hit the usual names - Boot Barn, Cavender's, Lucchese, etc., or is there an independent shop that might have a good assortment at less than full list price?

I used to hate western boots until I bought a pair of Ariat. Can't beat their price either. I've tried on and borrowed other boots costing 5 times as much and didn't care for them.

My first pair of Danners Ft. Lewis boots lasted over 20 years, including 4 as Marine infantry...they even still have the original soles. Throw some 550 cord laces on there, polish them from time to time and they will last a long time.

Wife got me my second pair for my birthday, they should last for the rest of my life. Fantastic boots. Made in the USA. Not cheap, but on a cost/year basis, not bad at all.

Kids bought me a pair of nile croc boots from City Ranch Boot Company in Waco. Holy crap these are the best boots I've ever had.

They measure you and you pick the leather you want. The nile croc is so soft it feels like glove leather. Then they send the boots to Blackjack Boots in El Paso made to your measurements.

If you have ever wanted a pair of custom boots, call Jay down there and he will hook you up. The cost depends on the type of leather used. They have elephant, croc, alligator, buffalo, cowhide, and a bunch of other stuff. The pair I got was a bit more than the croc boots at NRS in Decatur. But custom is pretty cool.

They can also put a logo on your boots. I got a BU, but they can do ATM, UT, etc.
