Will be staying in a modest lodge in a small town.
Hunting way out on BLM land.

The question. When you go out to eat, do the guns stay at the lodge with the room locked? Or do they go with you in the truck with doors locked while you're in the restaurant?

    Out here by the lake!
    Safes for long guns available?
Yes sir! Hunting lodges are aware of the cost of firearms & securing them. I'm more surprised that leaving the lodge to eat verses the lodge providing meals. Even if its just locked in your room a locked vehicle is less secure.

There are plenty of gun theives that target hunters vehicles specifically for guns.

Maybe I didn't emphasize "modest" quite enough.
Or, perhaps "lodge" was too generous of a description.
I don't expect to encounter a gun safe there. Nor a dining hall with supper offered.

    I reckon I'll decide once I'm there.

If you’re going by the diner or your way to/from the land, just leave them locked in the truck; no reason to make a special trip to put them in the motel.

Lock the case, run a cable lock through the seat anchors if you’re really worried.

Honestly, I ain't worried. Just kindly wondered what other folks normally do. Like when some drove to the reunion the night before and got a room. Drive through for supper maybe?

I usually leave them in the truck out of sight. Been doing this for many years and no issues. Not To say it might happen, but I have traveled from California to Montana and Texas to Montana with 0 issues. I just lock them up in the truck out of sight.

Do you leave them in the truck while you sleep?

If they are out of sight with nothing else tempting laying in view, the odds of a break-in are really tiny.

And in the highly unlikely event it happens, you have insurance.

We've gone to eat here after local range days. Generally I leave 'em put away and locked up in the vehicles and then try to park so I can see it from the restaurant.

Texas plates in Wyoming during hunting season is something thieves would cue in on. A truck, a 4X4 truck and a car all send different messages to thieves. Be sure to remove any hunting related items from the truck & watch what bumper sticker you have on it.
