The only Mecgar mags I’ve had issues with were the 8 round 1911 mags. I had 2, and each had a problem with a different 1911.

Nice that you were taken care of. Will keep my eye out for them

As for tripple k (what a name...), i wanted a few more magazines for my H&R leatherneck .22, and happened across one at a going out of business sale at an LGS.

It didn't work at all, at least i was only out $5

Where did you get that info, that Mec-Gar is the OEM of magazines for major brands of gun makers like the ones you mentioned? It got me curious; so, I went to their site and read the OEM Manufactruing page, the About page and some others and nowhere did I notice them claiming to be the OEM of magazines for other companies like Beretta. As a matter of fact, when I looked at their magazines for the Beretta 92FS it seems they make at least one proprietary magazine for the 92FS; and all of their magazines are marked with the Mec-Gar trademark. I could not find anything on their magazine pages either that said Mec-Gar produces OEM mags for Beretta. Maybe I did not look in the right places or maybe they just do not advertise that fact.

If I were to discover that Mec-Gar is the actual manufacturer of mags for companies like Beretta, then the next time I need mags I may go with them if - as I suspect - the Mec-Gar brand magazines would be less expensive than the gun maker brand-name magazines. Not about to do that though until I see some real evidence of it from either Mec-Gar or one of the gun makers.

I dont think mec gar makes the oem mags for beretta, but mec gar makes the best 92fs mags out there, 18 rounds semi-flush fit, more durable floor plates than the beretta 17 rounders, 100% reliable, and not a spec of rust on any of them. Many top shooters swear by them as well.

Mec gar is absolutely the OEM for lots of other companies though. Walther, canik and sig use mec gar, after all, if they made thier own mags, they wouldnt be marked "made in Italy"

Many gun companies won't tell you that Mec-Gar makes the mags. They would rather you buy them from the company and let them make the money. I know that many Beretta mags are made my Mec-Gar and marked Beretta.
Do you have verifiable proof showing that Mec-Gar manufactures Beretta magazines that come with the guns as they come from Beretta? If you have such, then the email Beretta sent to me, saying they make all of their own magazines, is not the truth! If so, please provide it because I would like to confront Beretta with it if indeed what they told me about who manufactures their magazines is not factual.

I am lucky then, the two mags I have for my Beretta 950BS in 22 Short both work very well - I tested them both today. As far as I can tell are probably both Triple-K mags. I know one is for a fact because I just got it new, the other looks to be identical so I am guessing it is Triple-K as well. I guess their quality control is not all that good - have heard too many failures with their mags (including the one I bought a few weeks ago and exchanged this weekend) for it to be any good. That is why I do not normally buy after-market mags for my pistols.

I don't often quote myself in gun forums but when I do....

I made an inquiry of Mec-Gar yesterday. Surprisingly enough, they got back to me in minutes judging by the time stamp in their email, which I only checked when I woke up a little while ago (must have been a slow day there). According to them, they do not manufacture magazines for Beretta; although they did at one time years ago. They do manufacture magazines for Sig and they noted that Sig has suppliers for every part on their firearms.

    Glenn,

We haven’t manufactured magazines for Beretta in a number of year. We do manufacture for Sig and we are their primary supplier for many magazines, but they have multiple suppliers for every part on their guns.

I am happy to see that a company which I hold in high esteem - Beretta - was being truthful when they told me that they manufacture their own magazines. I am also happy to see that my concern about someone possibly having been hosed by a dealer doing a mag switch were unfounded. My guess would be that Beretta had mags produced by outside entities at some point when they were supplying the U.S. military.

As for the revelation about Sig having "every part" of their guns supplied by outside companies, well that is an eye opener that maybe explains some issues with Sigs, at least for me. My agency was issued Sig 229 DAK pistols and many of them had multiple problems. That was probably due to poor quality control which I suppose would be more likely to occur when there are multiple suppliers/makers. I guess more than the normal level of performance issues occur with any firearm contracted by the government since the government contracts based on price (or is supposed to) once certain criteria have been met. The company with the least problems I saw, of the pistols issued by agencies in which I worked throughout my career, were Glocks. Mind you that is not to say that the Glocks did not have their fair share of issues, they just had the least as far as I am aware of any semi-automatic issued by my agencies when I worked for them.
