That's the sort of detailed collector knowledge I just don't have. Thanks for clueing me in to the fact that not all Gen 1 G17 Glocks are the same. I would have never cared to ferret out knowledge like that on my own.
And until he listed that one, I didn't know about the pencil barrel early models.

You're saying my sister's carry gun, that she bought for $250 and has been carrying for over 20 years, might be worth more than she paid for it?

Of all the guns in the house, that's the most utilitarian "it's-just-a-tool" piece of hardware either of us own. At least, in our minds it is. That someone else might feel differently just blows my mind.

Just let her know I have $251 whenever she's ready.......

I bought an early Gen 2 G17 out of a pawn shop that I call my "barn find" Glock. It looked like it had been stored in a barn for years before someone found it and cashed it in at the pawn shop. It came with the dirty box and both magazines and it still has the black internal parts.
It even had cobwebs inside the grip and there was a dead yellowjacket between the recoil spring and the barrel. It all cleaned up very nicely.

I thought I should update this thread. First, I appreciate everyone’s comments. As I suspected, there doesn’t seem to be any consensus on a “best” generation for Glocks.

I wound up buying a pre-owned Glock 19 Gen 4. I already had a Gen 4 Glock 27 that I run with a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel and 9mm mags. Been wanting a G19 for a long time so this fills that “need” and feels somewhat familiar.

Finally, I’m amazed that we could have a Glock thread that didn’t get derailed by people who don’t like Glocks. I appreciate the restraint and maturity.

    I'm a legacy guy.

I regret selling my ancient Gen 1 Model 19 in the black Tupperware box.
It may be the most significant gun in the history of humanity.

Take it for what it's worth because I think Raquel Welch is the hottest woman in the history of the cosmos.

FWIW she's 79 years old in about 3 weeks.
    Life is good.
    Fleeting, but good.

Raquel was smokin hot. That 60’s look with the cat eye makeup is super sexy.

We need a “babes from the past” thread.

No, we don't. The Man Cave was closed a long time ago. It had an absolutely epic "babes from the past" thread but those times are long behind us.

The new owners don't want it and I hope none of you will force the mods to track down and delete that sort of stuff.

I hate to be really serious about anything on TGT; it's a lighthearted place. This, however, is a serious subject.

TGT is not a place to post cheesecake photos from any era.

I'm one of the biggest Glock fanbois here.

I couldn't resist posting something negative just because of what he said...

    :green:

Well, yeah, but you need a better template than that. Daddy grand thumb would never go against glock

I pulled the meme straight off the net like that, I didn't make it....

ETA: I have no idea who it is.

Garand thumb is a youtuber that does your avg reviews. Pretty good channel, much better than say, sootch or nutinfancy.

As for the daddy bit, just look at the comments on his videos...

Been thinking about buying another Glock, either a 17 or 19, just to have one. I've got a G27, that I use with a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel and 9mm mags. Mine G27 is a Gen 4. It has been completely reliable, even with the 9mm barrel.

I'm wondering whether Gen 5 offers any advantages over earlier models. And some people seem to swear by the old Gen 1 and Gen 2 models as better built, more reliable, etc.

So, for those who have one or have had one, what's your opinion. Which do you prefer and why?
Have Gen 3 G26, Gen 4 G17 and Gen 5 19X. The 19X has a much tighter barrel and internals improved in a few ways that make maintenance easier and very likely better reliability. My opinion is that each generation has some measurable improvements over the last.
