Well, shit. I carry multiple extra magazines all the time as a EDC. That’s not cool?

    It's called being prepared.

I don't see where having extra mags constitutes premeditation. If a drunk driver's car is on 'F,' does it make it any more lethal? Maybe not the best mentality, but a defense attorney should be able to counter that argument easily.

Same goes with not calling 911. In a threatening situation, that may not be possible and shouldn't factor into whether a person's actions were justified or not.

But we're talking about Oregon here, so...

Well, Texas does have Travis County.

Yeah, I’m sure the legal system was prejudiced against him. Unfortunately, where things like this happens matters.

Case number 5 is worth reading.

#5 is a good example of why I think attending protests is, at best, fraught with risk.

Were I on the jury I would have done my level best to convince the rest of the jurors that it was NOT something to convict him on... of course, I'll never make it onto a jury, so there's that.

So since police wear body armor have a taser, ar and shotgun in the car. I can bring those things to a protest? I'm ok with that

The person in the last case had been before. Been attacked and injured. He knew the risk and prepared for it. The self defense stuff gets murky when you go back for seconds. The attitude of the Police and Prosecutors in the Houston area is at least as bent left as it is in Portland. Same in Austin and other large Texas rat holes.
I think the lesson is, don't attend riots, and call 911 if your gun is involved in any way

On the other hand, he was planning to attend a political rally - not a bare knuckles open. He should have the right to attend such an event without being attacked.
