I'm sorry, but using a sharpie to color in his scalp without his or his parent's consent was beyond stupid. If there is an issue, you send a note home with the kid or you call the parents to resolve it. I would never let my kids get a haircut like that or violate dress code in the first place, but there would be hell to pay if they came home with sharpie on their head.

I'd have to wonder if this dress code was explained to the parents beforehand. There certainly is far worse hair styles.

I don't like the lawsuit claiming racial bias, the attempt was to match the hair color, not the skin color.

Most of the issues they list in the suit are pure bullshit. What the school did was stupid, but I doubt it was racially motivated. As for informing the parents, back in my day (class of 2011) every student was given a physical copy of the student handbook that listed every rule, including the dress code. IIRC, it was also available online. If a parent wants to know what their kid's dress code is, it's pretty easy to find out.

They should have let the parents take care of it. As a former high school asst. principal in charge of discipline, I would never do something like that or allowed it to be done to any student at school. Parents should have been notified early on to come up and deal with the issue. Young man would probably have had the rest of the day off to get it in compliance! A win/win deal.
