    Me too :banghead:

I heard ATF is doing some bulk approvals if you have a bunch of forms. If I'm lucky maybe I'll get 7 of them back at the same time.

Just the two forms. I’ve waited this long I guess a few more moths won’t kill me. I do have other toys in the safe

Not sure what's going on with ATF but I feel like there's an obstructionist there.

We all know about the 2 month government shutdown. I got a May application in right before the shut down so 7 months. We do about 250 forms per year and I haven't gotten an approved form in almost 2 weeks. So I emailed the director of the NFA Branch. To his credit, he took a lot of time to give me detailed, professional emails in response.

I even offered, sincerely, to fly to WV and work for free for a week just to process forms if I could get a peek behind the curtains to see what's going on. And maybe I could help! I could do free programming or pitch some ideas. At least they'd get a free week of labor out of me. He didn't take the offer.

    Someone mentioned batch processing...

I have a guy who submitted 3 forms on the same day in May. One came back almost a month ago. The other two are still pending. He also has three other things from October pending. I asked what could change? Couldn't they take an approval, do a simple query for social security, and pull all the forms with the matching guy? In this case, this would clear 6 forms at once! I also have a guy who perpetually has 5-6 items in jail. He's bought about 30 cans from me so far (lucky me!). I'm not asking for fast track, but they should consolidate.

He said used to do that and are now trying something similar to pull people with 10 or more applications at once. Who the hell has 10 in jail?? But if you'd pull everyone that has two or more, that's many people! So you could easily, very easily, clear off about half of the work twice as fast.

He blamed FBI mostly. Said they had no control over how long a background check takes. He said from the time they get the form, they cash the check (in Oregon) and then send it to WV for data entry (very inefficient) and that whole process is only about 2 weeks. But then I said, "But an eform 1 goes through the same process, right? And when do you send it to FBI, by the way? If the eform1 is coming back in 35 days, how are their backgrounds going so quick? Most are done with trusts [he said trusts take longer]?" This is when the email replies stopped. Checkmate.

So now I'm wondering. If he has the forms all entered in 2 weeks, but the approvals are taking over a year right now, what's the deal? He said they have 300,000 applications per year. And only 20 agents (and then admitted to some contract workers for data entry) (and despite a $13mm INCREASE in the budget this year). Even then, that's about 5 minutes per form without working weekends and two weeks of vacation. With the barcode scanning it should take about 2 seconds. He also said 30% of the forms had errors. I don't believe that since maybe 1% of ours have errors and we represent active dealers. Those of use using the Silencer Shop program have few to no errors so 30%? I doubt it.

When the story starts to fall apart (form1 vs 4 background checks; 30% errors; etc), it starts to make me wonder what's really going on. Maybe we need a congressional inquiry. You'd hope our man Trump could send an interoffice memo to ATF/FBI and tell these guys to get to work. It's inexcuseable. Maybe now that the FBI isn't so busy with Mueller's witchhunt they can process some more backgrounds.

But it still doesn't explain the F1 v 4 disparity. You can make a SBR in 35 days but you can't buy one that already exists for 350 days. Also, he tried to make it sound like the background checks were a big deal. 300,000 total forms. Really? The FBI is processing 2 MILLION NICS checks per MONTH right now. 300,000 isn't even a pimple on their ass. 95% of my NICS checks are instantly approved (proceeds). I can't imagine what the difference is for people willing to pay $200 and follow the rules for cans (or SBRs/MGs/...)

    I smell an obstructionist.

My approved form 4 just hit the dealer today. Individual, for a suppressor. The check was cashed on 08/17/2018, not sure when it went pending, or was approved just yet.

Did you mean received before the check was cashed in the future?
Or is this 1 year later?
No. We're that good. We have connections. We got it approved before we even sent it in!

    :roflfunny:

Ya, sad that it takes so long that it's not obvious! We're running 11-14 months on most of our stuff right now. Just ridiculous. Was 5 months last summer.

A Trustee from an Estate gave me a Silencerco Specwar 7.62 can......but like everyone else...the Form 4 went out today and the wait begins.............can't take possession until the tax stamp comes back...

Crazy that folks with multiple NFA items and FFL's wait as long as everyone else......

Crazy that anyone has to wait for that matter...............

Check never cashed. Called the NFA Branch and was told to resubmit.
Will be adding a Q Erector with the Sandman K wait. The Mask was submitted in January with a check cash date of Jan 28th.

Let the wait begin... Dead Air Sandman K (Raw). Dealer had in stock. F4-Trust...

My latest customer transfer: 20 August 2018 submitted, 15 July 2019 signed, 20 July 2019 received.

The last lie from NFA was that the FBI was "taking a long time" for each review. Ah, bullshit. I can do a NICS check in under 5 minutes. What in the hell is going on for the other 11 months?

My guess, based on decades of government service, is that their godsdamned union has "performance expectations" and these lazy bastards will not do any more than the absolute minimum required in order to keep those sweet union gigs.

I’m at 10 months wait (and counting) on my next in queue. Priors in 2018 took 8 & 9 months respectively. I’ve gotten good about not thinking about it too often, but geez.

My SiCo Omega 30 check was cashed on 10/1 of last year.

I’m hoping to hear from the ATF soon-ish...
