. Decent bbq in dfw is hard to find. .

Not sure if you are serious. My favorites in order:

Pecan Lodge - deep ellum area of Dallas, parking is a pain, and expect a line, but the Q is amazing. A consensus #1 for many.

Hutchins in Mc Kinney or Frisco, both are great.

10-50 in Richardson, beef rib is almost as good as Pecan Lodge.

Hard 8, pretty much every location is great, but I like to go to the Stephenville original location. The Colony and over by the airport, north of 625 and east of Bass Pro in Grapevine. Didn't know they had a Roanoake location, rarely get over there.

For consistent quality and a quick lunch I often go to Rudy's. The Rudy's Chop is greatness. All the trimmings get made into a chop you can get on a sandwich or potato. Brisket, rib meat, turkey, pork loin, its all in there and the melding of those flavors together is greatness.

If you ever find yourself east of the Garland area near Lake Lavon, Big Daddy's is good. Also a new one called Meshack's in Garland, getting great reviews, but I still need to try it.

There is a new shop headed your way in Ft Worth. Flores BBQ. I used to drive to Whitney to eat there, but they closed it and are headed to FW. Its all good, and I like the jalapeno cream corn side.

I am not an expert on the FW shops, as I rarely get over there. But I liked Riskey's both in the Stockyards and on Main. I used to hit their all you eat rib special years ago. But I don't care for Heims. It was meh. I see the four stars, just didn't care for it. Heard Angelos is good, but have not made it there. My BIL says its good.

    Good redos.
I would add Lockhart’s to your list as well.

Here’s a tip for Pecan Lodge.
It’s often easy to find a seat at the bar, even if the line for food is long.
And if you sit at the bar, you can order food, they’ll bring it to you.
    It’s win-win!

    Thats a great tip.

I went to Lockharts, and the sides were too hot for me. I like spicy. But not when it overshadows the main event. I may need to go back and see if I can order different sides. Based on my first trip I would not go back.

For Father's Day, my daughter and her boyfriend wished to treat us to Terry Black's in Austin. Terry Black's is on Barton Springs Rd, across from whatever monstrosity replaced the old Palmer Auditorium. Terry is a nephew of the Lockhart-based Black's operation, which has another location in New Braunfels. Rumor is the Austin location was supposed to be branded as Black's but, due to a dispute, that changed. Oh well.

Anyways, the kids ordered brisket, sausage, creamed corn, and a chopped beef sandwich, while my wife had brisked and sausage. I, on the other hand, opted for the man's meal. Beef rib with a side of jalapeno cheese sausage, beans, and mac 'n cheese and some banana pudding for dessert.

Now, when I tell you the beef rib is as big as my forearm, I'm not kidding. And it's done well. Many times, I find ribs overly dry...not this time. Enough bark to leave a bite, but not dry and it tastes like beef smoked over wood should. Most of the beef cut well (yes, I recommend a knife for this rib) and the areas striated with fat pulled apart like a good pot roast. Very impressed.

The hot link was nice; crisp casing and a great flavor that wasn't overwhelmed with cheese, which can often happen. Sides sides were top notch as well.

Overall, I came away impressed, even at $22/lb brisket. Pro-tip: If you're bringing the family, get the family pack - 3lbs of meat + 5 or 6 sides for $95.

    I'd hit that again.

I don't know about ya'll, but when I eat brisket, I order a heavy half. Hopefully it's closer to 3/4#. Then I get a half link of jalapeno sausage.
A family meal might work for 3 or less....

Right before I quit working an older guy came in looking for beef ribs. He rally didn't what kind , but told me what he had ate & I figured plate ribs/short ribs. He told me not to trim the fat as he was going to smoke them. I thru a plate on the scale entered the price & I thought he was going to die. He felt a little better after I trimmed them for him. I remember when they were considered garbage & were cheap!

There was a meat market in Pasadena, right off Strawberry, that would marinate beef ribs in a homemade marinate for a week in 55 gallon drums they didn't last long when they hit the shelf.
I miss those ribs. As tender as hamburger.

With what meat cost I'd much rather taste the meat then the marinade in most cases. Proper cooking technique beats marinade & gimmicks all to hell.

Even before seeing this I told the wife for my 60th birthday I was thinking about driving out to Lockhart to get my grub on. The wife claims to hate BBQ, but I never seen her hold back on eating any. Perhaps it had to do with the crap her dad called BBQ.

A buddy told me about a place in Santa Fe & showed pictures that looked great. Killen's in Pearland is said to be good, but I hate Pearland.

Then again for what I'd drop on BBQ for my birthday I could finish out the last lower I bought. As much as my fat ass enjoys eating 24-48 hours later it's just shit!

In the Dallas area there are a couple good places for beef ribs. Most places don't sell them. But Pecan Lodge (the best one), 10-50 BBQ in Richardson, and Hutichins in Frisco has really good ones.

And Baboon, the beef rib has a special place in my heart. Its really the only food I splurge on. I love those things.

Check out Harlem Road BBQ. Harlem Road off 99 on the SW side. The owner is hands on and has a touch with the bbq he serves. His pecan pie puts most others to shame. It's a food trailer that has been converted with a pretty good size dining room.

And while we are one the subject of BBQ, zero thank yous to the Rudy's folks. The jerks pulled Big Red from thier soda fountains. I've been drinking Big Red with my Q since I was 5. They now have the regulars, plus some of those fancy pants sodas. And in spite of having at least two empty slots, still no Big Red.

Seriously. Its the only time I have a soda anymore. Turds.

San Antonio. Goodfire BBQ. Perrin Beitel and 410 just outside the loop. My wife really likes it, and she's not a big bbq eater. It's decent in my opinion. Very good prices.
