I remember years ago story of a guy carried through a hail storm & dumped in a hay stack. Survived but most all bones broken. Did NOT do it on purpose.

As a kid I read about a guy fallen 30,000 feet & living. WWII tail gunner IIRC, plane was hit & burning. Bailed out without a chute landed pine trees & snow. Nazis didn't believe him.

Had a problem on terminal velocity on a physics test in college where we were asked to prove if that was possible.

IIRC, ideal conditions, and assuming his mass and an ideal falling cross section, some had him hitting at around +/- 45 mph.

Didn't take into account the depth of the snow and how much the trees slowed him down, but it seemed in the realm of being survival.

Prof was looking for the terminal velocity in m/s, a definitive answer on survival was for the pre-med dudes.
