    Why?

Had mine go off minutes before the tornado went by my job a few years back. Of course like most people I ignored it.....

The Amber Alerts get me. "Solver car three hours from you! Keep on the lookout!"

    I'm talking about on TV.
It disrupts a recording for about 2 minutes, then 30 seconds later, it gets repeated.

    Flood warning, severe weather.
Might not even be my county.
Instead of taking up a small portion of the screen it blanks everything out.

    Trump's fault.

Well, that's what I call it.
An instantaneous drop in voltage, enough to cause cable boxes, TVs, etc., to for lack of better description "restart".
I was recording a movie, and there were (4) mentions of it in my queue, because it had flipped off/on.
When the lights flicker off, then on....
If you have to clarify your clarification . . . :p

    The Amber Alerts get me.
Well, ever since that Amber Alert for a stolen truck some time ago, I believe I've gotten fewer alerts.
"Be on the lookout for a child...last seen with her father" ?
The Amber Alert system was originally intended for stranger abductions. The inclusion of non-custodial parent custody violations has made people pay less attention. That's too bad since even those family problems do, sometimes, warrant an alert. Still, the overuse of the system has caused problems.
