Anyone here used or own elcan SpecterDR 1-4? I hear a lot of fan boys rave, but are they worth that price point? Also is it true the PoI shifts when you switch between 1 & 4?

    Out here by the lake!
I have a 1.5 X 6 they are expensive, they are heavy & mine works great. I have not noticed a shift in POI on mine. I have a buddy who had his on his M60 until he went with some thing with a larger FOV

I have a couple of these.

Feels twice the size and weight of an ACOG and unlikely any more functional.

    Big heavy bulky.
Though, one gets the sense that running over it with a truck would not hurt it.
    Reticle out to 1200 meters!

Have yet to see one of these used.
For the right price I'd grab it!

Overpriced, and any scope that has a POI shift when changing magnification is junk.

    We agree, mostly.

    1.
POI shift is real. I think it's about 2MOA when zooming from 4x to 1x.

    2.
In an infantry battle optic 2MOA is inconsequential given the intended engagement distances.

    ............................
Get zeroed perfectly at 100 meters at 4x.
When shifted to close quarters functionality at 1x the 2MOA shift is the practical equivalent of about 1/2 the width of a human rib at 25 meters.

    Accepting it's imperfections....I want one.
    ..............................

I have several Trijicon ACOG scopes and couple of Elcans. In real world shooting applications 3.5x or 4x power magnifications all of them are nary impossible to shoot better than 2-3 MOA.

As hunting, benchresting, measurebating civilians we forget....these instruments of war are engineered for aiming at moving torsos rather than 1" paper dots.

You want 1/2 MOA with no POI shift buy a Nightforce or US Optical.
You want something to shoot after it's run over by a tractor buy an ACOG or Elcan.
I have both. Different tools for different applications.
