I grabbed the muzzle and pointed it down towards the counter and simultaneously asked if I could see the pistol.....He said "it's unloaded". I removed the empty magazine and popped a live round out of the chamber.
I never seen this until being in more populated areas. Didn’t realize people don’t have the manners to ask may I unholster? Or just walk in the shop with it in the case unloaded for their inspection. Baffling people are just whatever about it. Glad you’re ok.

If I Am going to take a gun in to have it worked on or inspected, I bring it in a case and let the person that is doing the work take it out of the case. A good way to get shot is to pull a gun in a store.

2 weeks ago my wife asked me to come at look at a pistol that was "jamming" for a customer. I walked behind the counter next to her and he was pointing the gun at me, then her, then me then her as he was talking......finger on the trigger...

I grabbed the muzzle and pointed it down towards the counter and simultaneously asked if I could see the pistol.....He said "it's unloaded". I removed the empty magazine and popped a live round out of the chamber.

    He will not be back...........

    I trust no one.....ever....

    That's just insane.

    Good motto to live by...

For minor infractions my oldest son takes the RO role. He seems to have developed that calm friendly voice while explaining what hideous infraction you just violated. He's good at it to.

    Love PSC.

    .

This is the best paragraph in the entire thread.

Lots of posts about yelling, cursing, getting in faces, etc. I doubt any of those actions have had any positive lasting effects on the shooters. Some might say a new shooter deciding to not come back again would be a positive, but it only means someone has been either driven away from shooting because they think gun owners are assholes or they go somewhere else where nothing is said and continue to ingrain bad habits.

A positive learning environment far more likely to get someone on the right track whether they’ve been shooting for 10 rounds or 10 years. Trying to be the most badass guy on the range while correcting someone who most likely doesn’t even realize how wrong they are isn’t going to help anyone in the end.

I urge anyone who witnessed something unsafe to step in immediately, then show the person some respect. You’d be surprised how far you can get by being reasonable. Even if it’s a matter of not making some guy look bad in front of his girlfriend or something. Long term gains far more important than short term bravado and virtue signaling to everyone at the range that “you don’t mess around with safety, dammit”.

And yes, there are some people who can’t be reached. But some methods will offer far more success than others.

If anything in this post is taken as me believing range safety should be overlooked for the sake of feelings you have missed the point. It’s more about human nature.

That's a recipe for disaster along multiple dimensions.

There's nothing I like better than teaching women and kids who've never handled a firearm before.

There's nothing I like less than teaching grown men who believe they are the prodigal sons of John Wayne and are therefore born with a complete and perfect knowledge of all things firearms-related.

When the second group is trying to teach the first group, though, tears and terror are in the offing.

It’s incredibly difficult for a most men to teach a woman they are in a relationship with. Even with best of intentions on both sides, it’s just damn hard for most.

I taught my wife to shoot handguns. Just basics, grip, trigger squeeze, etc. we had plenty of tough moments. I’ve shown other women the same without issue and I firmly believe anyone else with equal ability as me could have had success teaching my wife with far less stress.

A lot of people have faired far worse in the same situations, and a few far better. I find it best that men not try to teach their own spouse. YMMV.

    ;) why I always use a case.
Edit: my comment about a person asking was about if someone doesn’t know, why don’t they ask to see if it’s ok before doing it? But I know the incoming answer. People are stupid. Guess I just answered my own question. Therefore...my favorite color is ham.

I tried to weasel out of teaching my wife how to shoot and tried to get her to go with a professional, but there was wailing and gnashing of teeth, so I went ahead with it, against my misgivings. Turns out she's a natural and she passed her LTC better than I did.

I share Kar98's positive opinion of Eagle Gun Ranges. I frequent their Lewisville location and its been my experience that they keep a watchful eye on the shooters. The ROs are friendly, polite and helpful but they do not put up with fools and have no problem telling anyone who can't follow the rules to pack up and leave.

I know what ya'll are talking about. I was an Army Drill Sergeant at Fort Polk, La from 1966 to 1968 and could tell you some scary stories about the gun range and some close combat courses.
I trained new troops how to shoot, dissemble, and reassemble M14, M16, and Colt 45.
Lucky I am still alive. My hearing is not so good now, we were never told or supplied ear plugs.

This was the first time I went to Eagle and I was impressed with the facility but the day I went seemed to be about 75% newbies and some of them were taking pictures and video's of each other shooting and this should not be allowed, people need to concentrate on handling a gun, not a camera. Also there should be more than one RO when there is alot of people in the shooting area that appear to be first time shooters. I will go back again but I will be even more aware of who is on both sides of me !

There's a camera at every lane, the feed is watched in real time and the RSO gets a blip in his ear when there's shenanigans going on.

What is the motivational factor to make folks want to waste ammo so profusely? Thanks
I wouldn’t normally do this, but since you keep asking this question, I will explain it using your own target for example. You posted this photo:
    upload_2019-3-21_8-52-58.jpeg

I count 49 holes in your target, but only 6 of them were instantly lethal, with several more serious hits that would be lethal if medical treatment wasn’t reached quickly.

Here is why I “waste ammmo so profusely”. This target is drawing from concealed carry and shooting from varying distances between 3 and 15 yards.
