The leftists have learned to say whatever it takes and run as republicons in Texas. That way they can get in office and then carry out their leftist agendas.

bonnen reminds me of lance gooden. gooden says he is a republicon but is actually a lefty. His campaign signs were blue! He got elected because a lot of democraps voted for him and a lot of republicons were apparently sleeping during the primaries and felt that they had no choice but to vote for him during the election.

Is abbott not a 2A supporter?
Abbott is a liar by omission. He talks the talk but never gets around to walking the walk. Last session he said he'd sign a Constitutional Carry bill. Then did nothing to help the bills along. You would have thought he and Strauss were brothers on the subject and the issue died. Then he spoke up and openly supported replacing Strauss. From a dim to a RINO, good talk no walk.

He owes the socialists for helping to get his position. Also, he was known as Straus' "pit-bull" and has gone after Abbott and Cruz. In effect, he's another RINO like Straus.

Is there anything good left in Austin?
40 years ago I would have answered that question with "5000 18-year old girls who just moved away from home." Nowadays I try to avoid contemplating the roads not taken...

So, I'll just say: live music venues. There are so many that you can find something you like, no matter who you are. SXSW may have deteriorated into a freak show but during the rest of the year, there are gems worth ferreting out.

    Interesting thought from Texas Scorecard.

“The Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety has now been given to Democrat State Rep. Poncho Nevarez (Eagle Pass). While pro-gun legislation had traditionally been sent to this committee, it may be a sign that bills such as constitutional carry could be sent to the Committee on State Affairs instead.”

Dade Phelan-R, Beaumont (NRA A rating) will be leading the State Affairs Committee.

Members: Ana Hernandez, Joe Deshotel, Todd Hunter, Phil King, Richard Pena Raymond, John Smithee, Bobby Guerra, Sam Harless, Justin Holland, Tan Parker, Eddie Rodriguez, Drew Springer.

There’s a couple of NRA Fs there, but the majority are A or A+. Might want to influence sending gun bills there instead.

As an eternal optimist, I am always grateful for the slightest glimmer of hope. Since Bonnen is the one doing the assignments, I guess we'll see his true colors shortly.

Because the asshat who is speaker needed Dem votes to get the job. I'm sure he's just paying them back for their support.

So why does he need any Dem votes at all? The GOP has had a near supermajority for decades. Why can't they put up a rock solid conservative and let the Dem's pound sand if they don't like it? I've never understood that.

I think the criticism of Abbott is unfair. You might say he could do more to push bills through but one can pretty much always say that. I've seen nothing to indicate that he's blocking anything gun related and he's consistently pledged to sign - and has signed - any gun rights bills that are sent to his desk.
