Hope this is the right section to post in, if not, mods feel free to move it. Got my 2019 ballot in the mail today. I don't follow the NRA politics enough to know who to vote for.

Seems like last year Ben and others had some good insight on who to vote for. I was hoping for more enlightenment this time around.

    Well t
You can cast up to 27 votes this year. I will be casting one vote and one vote only for Adam Kraut.

This is called "bullet voting." An explanation of the principle may be found here:

Well at least that make things easier. Sounds like a good enough plan to me.

The only way that I would ever become an NRA member again is for them to become like the GOA. That is for them to be non-comprising. And I would also like for them to go on the offensive, file some lawsuits challenging not only restrictive federal gun laws but also state laws.

The TSRA is a puppet of the NRA. And I would bet that there are other state organizations that are also their puppets. Can you imagine what could be accomplished if the NRA and their puppets would do what a pro-gun organizations should do?

    Meta-discussion for Sharkey and Hoji:

Oliver North is a big subject. As I've stated before, I'm an NRA Golden Eagle and I'm not abandoning the organization. By their very existence, they hinder the progress of anti-gun legislation. They also have great utility during elections.

However, the closest I've come to chucking them completely is when they decided Oliver North should be the big figurehead.

    Ballot-specific discussion for everyone else:

Creating a break in the BoD wall of Fudd-ness is always my goal during elections. I believe that starts with electing Adam Kraut. It has to go a lot further than that to reform the NRA but Adam is where it starts.

However, this year I will admit that electing him will be harder than it was last year when he just missed (IIRC) being elected. Why? Because both Oliver North and Ted Nugent are on the ballot this year. Those two names will draw all the less-than-clued-in voters and even a substantial number of voters who should know better. Many of the people who should bullet vote for Adam will, I fear, be too distracted to vote most effectively.

Sorry to be pessimistic but, frankly, that's the reason I didn't start this thread this year like I did last year. I can only hope that, as usual, my instincts are completely wrong. :)

    Sharkey,

I saw you praising Oliver North in the shot show thread.

You mean this Oliver North, right?

    https://www.alloutdoor.com/2018/05/...orth-supported-assault-weapons-ban-waco-raid/

Yep the same one. Is there another one? If you are a member, vote for who you think will do the most good. If you aren't a member, then it really doesn't matter what your opinion is does it? Someone mentioned the TSRA as being a puppet to the NRA. I am also a life member there too and they have been instrumental in beating back a lot of gun control bills here in TX. I gouess go join GOA like Roadrunner. I swear, some of you'll are like a cancer on things.

But, clinton said that the NRA was the reason that the democraps lost a lot of seats. So old ollie can't be all that bad, after all he represents the NRA.

Still don't like my answer I see. Glad I wondered over into this thread. If what I said is not true, go ahead and point it out to me. Yep TSRA and NRA doesn't do chit..... I'll ask again, if the NRA is such a worthless organization, why does the left constantly villify them. If the NRA has 0 pull, why did DT speak at their annual exhibit?

You remind me of the MSM by the way you spin things.

I didn't say that what you said was not true, I too heard what clinton said. It is just that I don't believe anything that either of the clintons say.

And I did not say that the NRA has 0 pull. Of course they have some pull, how else would they have been able to help write and or help to get every major US gun law passed?

The NRA is in it for the NRA, not the gun owners.

I'm not convinced anyone here would characterize the NRA as "worthless." As I said up-thread:
By their very existence, they hinder the progress of anti-gun legislation. They also have great utility during elections.
However, you can't deny that they don't do some of the things that other organizations do. They don't file all the lawsuits they should. And sometimes they are absolutely gutless and politically incompetent, e.g. throwing bump stocks under the bus instead of, at minimum, using bump stocks to get something they should want.

If they were going to give up bump stocks, they should have at least defended bump stocks until they could trade them for, say, the Hearing Protection Act.

But no. They spent that bargaining chip on absolutely nothing. They just flushed it down the toilet for no good reason.

At times like that, they put me in danger of brain damage from all the facepalming I do. That's why I believe electing a reformer is a good idea. Then elect another or two or ten on the next and every subsequent ballot.

If the NRA has a cancer on it it would be like a smoker with lung cancer, self inflicted.

To be honest the NRA does do some good. Every time I receive a phone call or a letter from the NRA I send a donation to the GOA.

So, you believe in bans on ARs and the like? Do you believe that if citizens want to shoot “assault” rifles they should joint the military ?
If you back Oliver North as president of the NRA that is what you are supporting.

It's really pretty simple. IF you like the NRA as it is, continue to vote for yes people. IF on the other hand, you would like to see some change to the NRA from within, where it is desperately needed, vote for Adam Kraut.

Only problem is when the NRA saw what the voting membership was trying to do last year, the pricks changed the rules. I will be voting for Adam Kraut for all the good it will do, but as long as they keep putting in people like Oliver “ if you want to shoot an assault rifle join the military” North and Marion “ bump stocks are machine guns” Hammer in leadership positions..........
