You can also suspect how many fux I give what you think.
I think the socialist NY rep. Cortez just stated she gave 0 f'ks about what the DNC thinks of her on a late night show recently. I guess it is fair to say you give 0 f'ks too?

    pipe dreams,

One hopes that you will understand that since probably 75-90% of government "workers" are liberals, that one would presume that it's 7/10+ chance that ANY random goverment civilian would be a DIMocRAT and/or a LIB.

If you're going to serve up softballs like this, you can't blame me for taking a swing at them.
Too bad POTUS can’t permanently furlough the entire IRS and then cut everything other department/agency by 50%, for starters.
Well, there's some logic there. If the entire IRS were permanently furloughed, incoming revenue to the federal government would drop precipitously. I imagine every other department/agency, including the military, would have to be cut 50% almost immediately and substantially more in the long run.

People love to hate on the IRS but it's funny how they never seem to have any decent plans for raising enough revenue to run whatever level of national government they think is important. Generally, I see two proposals to get rid of the IRS and still fund some sort of more-limited federal government:
    1. Rely on the states to do the right thing and fund what's needed for the national/common good.
      • People who spout this nonsense should read a history book and gain a basic understanding of why the Articles of Confederation didn't work. States won't send money to a central government if they don't feel they're getting their money's worth. Protip - no state ever feels it's getting it's money's worth.
    2. Institute a national sales tax.
      • That might work. It will not, however, change human nature; there will still be tax cheats. Those people will have to be found, the money collected, and the most egregious of them will have to be criminally prosecuted. A bureaucracy will have to exist or be formed to do that basic administrative work. Give it any name you want, but that bureaucracy will be the Internal Revenue Service, in fact and in essence if not in name. tl;dr - This approach requires that the IRS still exist. It might be smaller but it would still exist, completely defeating the goals of the people who just want to abolish the IRS.
I have no beef with people who want to get rid of the IRS. However, I think it's incumbent on them to outline what sort of world they want to create when the income to the federal government drops by the ~$3,700,000,000,000.00 per year that the IRS brings in. Replacing any substantial portion of that kind of money is a rather difficult problem, I think.

Not here in San aAntoni TX, or even in NJ when I worked there as a gvt employee.
If you're going to out out a percentage statistic please site your source for such a random number like you post.

    pipe dreams,

Fyi, I used to work for "the !@#$%^! government" too ("in the belly of the beast", i.e., Washington DC) & my comment is based on my personal observation of the antics of the LEFTISTS, who were "co-workers". = My experience was that those folks were as PREJUDICED, hateful & "close-minded", in their own way, as the worst of the KKK-idiots are.
(I was "counseled by" our "department chief" because my late wife came out to the office one afternoon, while driving her personal car, that had a "pro-life" bumper-sticker upon it.)
Note: The "terrible & very offensive sticker" on VK's car said, "If it's not a baby, you aren't pregnant."

When talking about U.S. government employees, there is a very broad spectrum of jobs. The majority of employees work outside of Washington D.C. and are in every state. I don't doubt in some jobs there may be a lot of liberals. A very big section of employees work for the DoD all across the country, and I can tell you that the vast majority of them are ex military. Now I didn't take a poll to see who, of those employees are conservative or liberal, but from my experience I have found that those ex military are quite often of a conservative nature.

    easy rider,

In 2019, we ex-GIs are FAR LESS than 1% of the US population, so (pardon me for believing you overstated the current situation in 2018,) but I feel that every day that passes that there will be LESS of "our sort of folks" employed by "THE BEAST", i.e., the federal government.

    just my OPINION, satx

About 1 in 3 new hires across the federal landscape are veterans.

    https://www.federaltimes.com/home/2018/04/07/where-are-the-veterans-in-the-federal-workforce/

Veteran status does not confer political ideology, though numerous studies infer younger veterans are more likely to vote, and when they do they are more likely to vote R.

I don't know what part of the government you worked for, so I can't know what it was like where you were at. I worked for the Navy, and in the shipyard where I worked there were about 14,000 employees. I can tell you that in 2011 when I last worked there that at least 90% of those were ex military and probably 20-25% of those were retired military. That is pretty much how all the other bases were. Ex military and especially retired or wounded military are given preferential consideration as far as hiring for almost all positions. Of those that were not ex military, at least like me and others I knew, were also of a conservative nature.

This is my observation upon bases where I worked and where I was sent to, which were not always exclusively Navy.

Nail on the head, as usual. The IRS is an easy target, especially due to the complexity of the tax code and the difficulty in navigating it come filing time. There's easily more people unsure of whether they were taxed fairly according to the letter of the law, than who are certain they only paid what is legitimately due. Entire industries have sprouted and flourish because of it. Even those who agree it's important to fund a governing body will vehemently disagree on the methods we currently employ to accomplish it.
