I've never heard of a trailer brake battery?
Trailers with electric brakes have a battery backup connected to a break away system. If the trailer comes unhooked a cable (tied to the tow vehicle) pulls and engages the system and the brakes engage on the trailer.

This system keeps an unhooked trailer from freewheeling down the road.

Now that LED lighting is so prevalent the manufacturers have hooked the interior lights up to that battery instead of drawing power from the tow vehicle.

This is very nice for three reasons:

Using the interior lights cycles the battery (that is charged by the tow vehicle) which before was never used unless the breakaway system was engaged. This extends the battery life greatly.

If your interior lights dim you know the battery is going bad or not charging. The system is part of the inspection process so you can address any issues before you get the trailer inspected.

The trailer doesn't have to be hooked to the tow vehicle for the interior lights to work. This is really nice since the old system would draw straight from the tow vehicle's battery and could kill it. Some vehicles required the key to be on for the lights to get power which really sucked.

The battery and break away connector look like this:

I have seen a boat and trailer go in a different direction than the tow vehicle.

    Thanks for the info.
The break away connector rod looks like it used to be a coat hanger.

Naw, I used all them to make my ARs run full auto.....

That is actually a rubber coated cable. Keeps you from getting splinters but allows moisture in but not back out so rust forms.

My current project is an '87 Alfa Romeo Milano... I needed to know what a Milano in good health was like so a local Alfisti let me try his out! I've decided to vlog the build of mine. Please subscribe to my youtube channel to follow along and help keep me motivated :D

First time I saw a torsion bar suspension was on a 4X4 Mitsubishi truck I'd bought. Front end was "too low" so I crawled under it to take a look. I laid there about an hour looking at it before I figured out how to crank the front end up. I may have taken a nap for a while...

After taking out the boxes and building shelves. I still have a ton of organizing to do but the big work is done.

I did add two more LED lights (which run off the brake battery so they work without being hooked up to the truck) but didn't do much to anything behind where the toolboxes were. That's a nice setup! I like the ladders on the shelves.I don't want the back breaking work of always having to go crawling in this thing, so I'm thinking of trying to make it so I can reach everything from the door. Initially when I got this I was thinking about selling it and getting a flatbed instead, but I think this will work out just as well.

Much more room if I put them outside but then people have a hint of what is inside. Plus they are secure.

I would put shelves in yours and be done with it. While easy access is nice it wastes a lot of space.

A little isle in the middle with shelves all around would maximize space.

Message or text me later and you can check mine out for ideas. I have some plywood pieces you can have if you want them too. Enough to get started anyways.

Good video and a nice upgrade.

I don't have one but hear good reviews of these cans too. They have a vent system that allows a full stream.

Might be worth a look if you are buying new.

    Thanks!

I saw one of those Surecans in the store the other day. Cool idea, and it appeared to be well constructed. Eventually the rubber seals are going to wear out where the nozzle pivots, and I'm not sure if they can be replaced. It was $50.

    The EZ-Pour kit was $10 ;)

I have 2 of those. They are a little on the pricey side but they’re the best gas cans I’ve had in years. They can also be placed in enclosed spaces without fumes and smell building up. That’s a huge advantage for me. My wife has breathing issues and I wasn’t able to keep gas cans in the garage for years until I got these cans.

I needed a backup plan for Radwood this weekend since I don't think the Milano will be running by then. This car is basically the opposite of everything else in my fleet, but it's great as a "plan-b"
