"Glider" is pushing it but they are floaty. If you're going to test the manuverability limits have some height, they can be deceiving on signaling stall.

Plane flew great. Launched power off with a 2200 because I’m a chicken and it sailed away.

I had it slightly nose heavy and pushed in to a heavy stall (full up elevator) it started to spin. Nosed it down and flew out within one turn. I had to really try to stall it, almost to a standstill.

Ran the motor for 4 minutes including stall testing and a few passes and rolls then just went up a couple hundred feet and killed throttle. Total flight was 13 minutes and landed with a little over 40% on the battery. Landed in launch mode and just let it slide in.

It’s gonna be one that goes with me pretty often. Not sure if it will glide as well with the blunt camera nose. Also packs back in to the box really easy. Only downside is the foam is 2 sided and pieces go on each side. I had no problem just putting my hand on one side to keep the cardboard in place when flipping it. Takes less than 5 minutes to assemble while chatting.

This thread reminds me of my dad & brother who where into R/C. I notice the glider has an engine, I remember a very long section of surgical tubing.

There’s some guys at the club that do that. Another was talking about how they had rigged up and old Jeep starter.

Some talk about the old days of using a Cox .049 to get in the air the gliding as long as they can.

I’m just gonna stick with the electric motor in the nose for now :)

The rubber band was a PITA. Eventually once my dad got older & couldn't look up as long or see as well the guys he flew with turned to mini electric planes & flew them inside.

The one R/C field they flew at for years was sold by the farmer & became the Rte 66 Speedway. That was the beginning of the end for most the guys he flew with. They found another place down the road but raceway traffic messed up a lot of their flying days.

I remember my brother had a 'gentle lady' (sounds like a Fleetwood Mac song).

I lent him a transmitter, receiver and a few servos.

I wonder whatever happened to it?? At least he gave me back the radio stuff.

Couldnt hardly see anything going bad. They have the inherent flight characteristics of a down feather....:green:

    Got my receiver in.

Battery voltage, amp draw, mah used, altitude, Vario, temperature, signal strength...oh, and it can make the servos move too.

Mine had an .049 strapped on top, small tank with just enough fuel to get altitude.
It also had a hook on the bottom for surgical tubing, but I never used it.
Of course this was all 40+ years ago.
Electrical motor sounds like the way to go.
Used a lot of those .049's back in the 50's. That was all a guy could afford. Never used them on gliders. we didn't have RC. So, everything was wire controlled.

The whole control line & building balsa wood planes was my brother & dads big thing growing up. They bother very detail oriented builder. I just got stupid from the glue & dope that they used. My dad at some point convinced me into a snap together Cox trainer plain. My first time out after crashing it a bunch I started flying all kinds of trick moves. When it ran out of fuel I landed it & started puking my brains out. I was dizzy like I spun around with my head to a baseball bat. I pretty much lost interest in it & never even went with my dad & brother to fly.

It’s much better now. If you factor inflation, you can have a plane ready to fly with transmitter included WAY cheaper than what it used to cost for a small free flight plane.

Not many people want to build anymore. Most fly foam planes now with quiet electric motors, or maybe put together an ARF.
