I wouldn't want to waste my ammo just to say I've done it.
That could be a whole thread, right there. The number of shooting sports that push way past pointless in their pursuit of an arbitrary goal is seemingly infinite.
    • How much did Boyer spend in money, time, and work to be named Benchrest Shooter of the Year so many times and dominate the Benchrest Hall of Fame?
    • How many years did Ralf Schumann shoot 200K-400K rounds per year so he could dominate ISSF Rapid Fire Pistol and win all those Olympic gold medals?
    • How many people pour all their excess income and all their free time into pistol shooting at a mile or rifle shooting at 2 miles, just to win accolades from the 100 or so people in the world that also do the same thing? (OK, yeah, it's more than 100, but still...)
    • And in every other shooting sport, there are more examples.
Back when I shot IHMSA there were load work-ups to do. The first time I shot an iron-sight, 2" group at 200 yards with a pistol, I stopped. I knew lots of people could do that and I knew it was good enough. After that I just went to matches and had fun, never winning anything. The personal satisfaction was enough for me.

To specifically address your comment, I have no idea why people spend so much ammo (and money and time) just to say they've done it, whatever it may be.

But we need those people. They show us what's possible and they push the boundaries of what we know in every field of human endeavor.

I don't have it in me to push like that but I certainly admire those who do.

No doubt, I'm happy to know that my rifle could accomplish such feats and I'll at times push it further then my best, but I do know my limitations. When I was younger I often did at least try the extremes, but I do know that this round is made more for the 200 to 300 yard realm and that could be pushing my own realm.
