I prefer to carry concealed. If I decide to have only a truck gun it will be a revolver or a XD .45 2.0, not like I am loosing an HK or something I would get butt hurt about. Then again, after they stuck a drill in my left hip, I guess I am literally butt hurt. LOL

According to the Texas DPS Handgun Licensing and what they require to be taught it is. So yeah, there's always that.....

    Link?

Cause carry unrelated to CHL/LTC was not required when I was an instructor, and no instructor I have ever taken class from covered carry unrelated to CHL/LTC.

I would be shocked if a LTC instructor had to teach MPA law.

Then be shocked and do your own research. It's real easy to find.

So no link to support your claim LTC must teach MPA law, even though it is "easy to find".

Copied this for you from the "outline".

    B. Lawful/Unlawful carry 1. Penal Code §46.02 ‐ Unlawfully Carrying Weapons a. This applies to both license and non‐license holders and is often referenced under the term of Motorist Protection Act (MPA). Prior to passage, carrying of weapons in vehicle was limited to those traveling. Students should be directed to (a‐1) for additional information regarding carrying of a handgun in a motor vehicle.

I did all that crapola before they changed the law, and simply required finger prints/picture/address and money, simply because I wanted to have no nexus to the Government. I paid my 150.00 (Free for FLEOS and LEOS), shot the painfully easy course of fire, and then got mine. Perhaps that is why mine still says "CHL" and not "LTC". I do know one thing, before 2020, I need to get on the website, verify I have not moved and pay my money so they can mail me a new one.

Don't feel discouraged. Once you get your LTC and understand what a "gun free" sign means when it an actual real sign, you will be fine. No need to stress. Just be a good shot, and carry some liability insurance. Family of scum tend to be scum. I think you will feel better knowing you can defend yourself (and not knowing your situation), your family too. I am been carrying a weapon a good portion of my life. You will find it just one of those things eventually. Don't get bullied or clubbed over the head. Some people just get off on that crap. Just like in public there is always "that guy." What we used to say at the USBP academy who were always slow about leaving the mat room with their running shoes for formation running (It's always the same people). Relax, pretty much everyone not voting for Beto carries.

Hang around. This place is pretty tame compared to other gun boards. Welcome to guns & concealed carry!

I've been carrying since I turned 21. I'm 39 now. Soon it will be over half my life.

The first time I carried I did it in the small of my back. I think I thought it would be less noticeable. Then I drove my truck and went shopping at HEB. Driving that way sucks. Bending over at the store was unnerving cause I was afraid the gun would show.

Now I carry at about the 3 o'clock position IWB (inside the waistband) & I don't notice it at all.

What type of gun did you buy?

ETA: Have you had your wisdom teeth out yet?

I carried a Glock 22 and a Taurus stainless 66 before I was even legally allowed to. When I was 24 the USBP trained me on the 96D, as that was the handgun at the time. We called it the Italian Tomahawk, because it was heavy, didn't contain many .40 rounds and hard to conceal off duty. Honestly, that is where I learned to shoot. Sight alignment, trigger squeeze. My dad, always did point combat shooting, so I knew nothing about sight alignment and trigger squeeze. But, when I had it down pat, I taught my wife, who naturally outshoots me. She doesn't have to practice. I can take her out 6 months from now, and all her rounds will still touch. I could wait a year, and the result would be the same.

Part of the reason I have the firearms I do, is to train family members. It still think it is a crock that you have to be 21 until you can carry a handgun. In nine years, my daughter can carry on her own. She wants to go to A&M, so I figure I will have to get us an apartment until she is 21, and she can legally take care of herself.

I carry like I did the majority of my career in plain clothes. Have your pistol, your mags, and a jacket or concealable shirt on. So, I OWB with a cover shirt, jacket, depending on the weather. Part of the reason when I drive around town (as my legs won't let me go far), I tend to drive with my left hand, because when I was uniform, or plain clothes, I wanted my right hand free for my firearm. It has come in handy a couple of times. I don't know what some lady was doing in Laredo in one of those raised up trucks, but she turned and acted like she was going to run right over our Crown Vic. I drew on her, and she decided better of it.

About six months before your birthday(expiration date) you will receive a letter stating you renewal date is approaching. You can also renew on line. My 4th or 5th renewal(whichever it was) online was back in 7 days.

Just did mine a few weeks ago. Got the letter and went online and paid the fees. Took a few weeks though and then it showed up. No muss no fuss.

Yes, usually the delays are this is a huge State, I don't care what Alaska says (they have less usable territory), and a lot of people get CHL's renewed/LTC's issued. Some for the first time. So, I don't stress a few weeks.
