Dillon and hornady cost more though. The new Lee is $100.

There's a reason for that. The Lee progressive I had was like a crude Rube Goldberg machine. Lee does 'simple' well. If you aren't doing high volume reloading the Lee turret is a great choice.

I can agree with that sentiment.

I’ve never messed with a Load Master, but for loading 200-500 rounds of plinking ammo at a time the Pro 1000 has worked great for me.

If I were loading 2,000 rounds at a time I would probably upgrade. Or if I wanted to run .223 on it. Pretty much only use mine for 9mm.

Also, if you have no interest in figuring out quirks it’s not a press you want. There are certain things it will do that, if you aren’t willing to find the cause, will drive you crazy. A hidden primer that got knocked out of place will cause the shell plate to over rotate every time leading to repeated priming issues.

Letting it sit and get dust on the primer feed will cause primers to not slid down properly. Same if you let it run too low on primers.

The most annoying aspect of the pro 1000 is that it uses a ball detent to align the cases in the each stage. This can cause the plate to “snap” in to place at the end of each rotation. If you have a fluffy powder that fills the case it can cause a few flakes to be tossed out each time and eventually cause a mess.

If you put too much tension on the little chain that resets the powder drop it can break leading to squibs if you don’t pay attention.

But I learned it’s quirks, learned where to look at each stage, learned the feel, and it works very well for my goal of cheap subsonic 9mm plinking ammo. Not for everyone though.

That's why I don't prime with it. I also don't use the chain for the powder measure. I just use the original spring. I have learned to keep a hand on top of the powder Hopper and make sure it fully seats all the way down. Sometimes it wants to stay up an ⅛ of an inch and that changed the powder drop amount. Took a while to figure that one out.

I also don't size on the p1k. I have it set for powder in station 1, bullet in station 2, and crimp die in station 3. I have been using it for 380s and have loaded a few thousand 9mm with it. I'm going to start loading 45s again though so I'm gonna setup another turret for that. I don't plan on doing 223 on it though. Maybe be I'll look for a used turret press and see what I can find.

Just remembered I picked up a bunch of brass at the range Saturday. Probably got 700-800 223s and a couple hundred 45s. There was also a bunch of 30-06 on the ground in the 10 yard private bay.Helped myself to some of that, too. Probably got 100+ of those guys. Tumbling batches and sorting now.

Just had one of those races where you wonder what will run out first; brass, powder, or bullets.

    Bullets won.

First I got a 223 case stuck. Then I broke the linkage on my single stage press. It's a 2 piece linkage and I was able to move the arm to the other side which allowed me to use the press still, but I don't want to push it. Gonna order a new one tonight.

I just ordered a bunch of stuff from Lee for the p1k, now I gotta order more. Fun fact though, if you know the right 4 digit number for a part from Lee you can order almost anything for free.

You don't need to know the number. Most of the stuff is free after it's in your cart.

I was talking about the parts they don't list. Like die bodies and stuff. I may have gotten a free .356 sizing die.

I have never reloaded. I'm sure there are many who do so. And, I applaud them. It's just not my cup of tea. Easier for me to buy ammo.

It's not for everyone. There's time that goes into it. Some people can't justify the cost of their time. In my case, my kids go to sleep around 830 and sometimes my wife will go to sleep around then as well. At that point I have 3-4 hours to either watch TV, reload, cast bullets, play video games, etc. I don't factor my time into reloading cost because it would just be wasted otherwise. Plus I like to shoot a lot and that's easier to do when you have extra ammo on hand. I'm also reloading 9mm for just over 2 cents each, so I can go shoot those all day and not break $20 including range fees!

I started out reloading due to saving $9.00 a box on my 44 mag bullets. Plus I could load a lighter target load for it.

But the last decade I began to seek more accurate ammo. Being able to shoot a baseball sized group at 300 yards with my 30-06 is really good for me. A ping pong ball sized group with my AR is amazing to me. I now some guys can shoot even better than that.

But being able to tune your ammo to your gun is what keeps me doing it. Its been a while since I loaded pistol, but I regularly load rifle.

That pretty much sums it up. I started on 9mm competition rounds that shaved an inch off my groups and AK rounds that shaved 4+ inches off my groups. Worked up from there. Due to the way the '16 election was looking, I even started loading rounds for guns I didn't have. Still have a bunch of 38s and 40s laying around. Only recently did I get a 45 but already had 500± hornady XTPs loaded up for it.

Can you break down that price on the 9mm?

I bought 15kg of powder via Facebook reloading group (red-eye reloading) for $360 delivered. S&B primers at $20/1000 at Cabela's. Free lead from tire guy at work. Powder coat from smoke on the CB forum. Electricity is cheap. Gas is basically free. Had a lot of tanks left after I got rid of my grill...

    0.02 primer
    0.00 brass
    0.00 lead
    0.00001 electricity and gas
    0.00001 powder coat
    0.09 ~6 gr powder

So I'm at 0.029 per 9mm. 226 rounds loaded in mags plus reloading once at the range. 9$ range fee at bracken. So I can go blow 450 rounds day for about $22.50. I highly recommend getting big mags!

The 380 uses a little under 4 grains so those are more like 0.025 per round.

I thought I had some pics of the powder coat bullets but I think I erased them.
