    Middle of no where
There's a place called Bomber Field in Monaville, Tx. , they have some guys out there that bring jets. They are pretty impressive to see flying in person. There's also guys with stunt plans that come out & put on a good show.

While the jet is impressive, a motorless glider holds the speed record @ 799fps or 545mph. Winds were 53 - 80 mph.

I use a Hitec Aurora 9x radio with Optima 9 rx. The servos are a mix of MKS HV747 and MKS HV6130.

For the distance travelled per lap you can figure ~3.1sec at 800ft/s ~2500ft so about 800ft diameter. This is larger than theoretically optimal but was alot more flyable given the turbulence...

I was involved with the design and built the plane but 'scratch built' would be misleading since alot of people have contributed on the project. Most notably Dirk Plug, Thomas Pils, and Stutgart University. Thanks guys!

Sorry ,I didn't have a stopwatch when I did the above figuring. Lap times are shorter than I thought...

130" wing span. The weight and G load are incredible but I can't find them.

That would be so hard to program to be autonomous

Actually, no where nearly as bad as one might think: There are a lot of guys who've built thier own long range/time autonomous planes and gliders. Pretty incredible, and most seem to spend far less than $5k doing it.
