The Volquartsen piece is 11.49, is the Power Custom one any better? Looks like a completely different design on the holes.

One thing to remember about the auto bolt release is that if you tap the butt of your rifle (as just a little on the floor) it will release the bolt. That's because the inertia of the somewhat heavy bolt allows it to move back enough to release the grip the bolt catch has. It's not a major issue, just something to be aware of and probably the reason Ruger doesn't ship with this configuration.

As another mod, I like the KIDD pin kit, and KIDD cocking assembly which comes with three different weight springs so you can tune to the ammo you're shooting. Relatively inexpensive and easy to install.

I think an extended mag release is high on the list a 10\22 should have.

Even better is a large lever release.

The one I mentioned is an Auto Release and Extended . There is an extra bit of it that extends down so you can reach it easier, so in my thinking it corrects 2 problems for me

Great for plinking and benchwork but I've had that snag on me a few times out popping squirrels in the field. I sometimes hold my rifle by gripping around the action where the magazine sits (at the point of balance) and the long lever hangs up on my clothes from time to time - doesn't happen a lot but it has happened on occasion. Funny as hell to be walking along then suddenly have your magazine drop to the ground...

    Funny as in...NOT.

I made my own buffer out of 1/4'' OD plastic water tubing and a piece of all thread works pretty good if I say so myself

First thing I did was replace the charging handle, that tiny thing hurt my hands and was not easy for my daughter to work

Bought a kidd handle and bolt buffer, then had trigger reworked.

This is all I've done to the 10/22 stainless and black plastic takedown, and for spotlighting and ranch walking it's all I need until I get the tacsol shrouded barrel and suppressor-

    auto bolt release
    vq hammer
    bx-25
    3 pack of bx-10
blackhawk single point sling wrap thing
    single point bungee sling
UTG picatinny low profile scope rail
    UTG QD scope rings
    Simmons 4x scope

it works. I'll get a buffer when I get a suppressor.

The things that improved my 1973 vintage 10/22 and raised the fun factor the most : VQ Hammer and TSR-25 Red Dot. Both on sale right now too.

Reduced trigger pull from 6 1/2 to 2 1/2 lbs.
Volquartsen Target Hammer Bushings Ruger 10/22

Really cool fun, replaced my TSR-100 peep sights.
Bushnell TRS 1x25mm Red Dot 731303

    Other stuff that I changed:
    VQ Bolt buffer
    VQ Exact Edge extractor
    Kidd Guide Rod and Springs
    VQ Auto bolt release
    Hogue Overmold stock
    VQ Extended magazine release
    BX-25 magazines
    Tech Sight TSR-100

LOL, close to $300 worth of stuff in the last 2 years for a rifle I originally paid 50 bucks for new.

The way I'd upgrade, in order.

    Buffer
    Auto Bolt Release
    Larger Magazine Release
    Trigger
    Sights\Scope
    Barrel and Stock
    Larger Magazines

Really next time I'm saving pennies and going straight to a Kidd.

I agree, but I would throw in a VQ Exact Edge extractor.

Great thread. I decided to get out my 10/22 that I purchased in the early 70's. Been looking at scopes, but have a red dot I am not using, and had not thought about mounting that on the 10/22. How do you like it?
