Hopefully this will encourage others to join the NRA, TSRA or any pro 2A group of your choosing:

If the Democratic Party hoped to keep the gun issue off center stage in the 2012 presidential race, MAIG's campaign makes that unlikely. So does the fact that the NRA and the gun industry's trade group, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), have announced they will have a combined war chest of $225 million.

    ....

The New York City police department went to the ATF, traced data, turned that traced data over to private investigators, violated federal law, and interfered in 18 ongoing criminal investigations," he said. "The ATF had to pull agents out of the field because they were placed at risk.

I looked online using my Google Fu, and I am a little confused, so perhaps someone here can shed some light. It seems like, looking on Google, that the NRA seems to run this lifetime membership for 300.00 promotion every year around this time of year. (At least going back to 2008 or 2009.) Am I mistaken in this? If so, that gives me a little more time to gather my money. If it is just coincidental, please let me know. Yes, I want to join NRA for the lifetime membership, but finances are not as strong as they once were in this economy, so if I can use the money for other things, I would like to put it off for right now.

... Signed up etc 3 weeks ago and I still get renewal statements. Then yesterday I get a thing saying your life info will be coming soon and then today I get another renewal statement. Went online and it said I was a life member status active. They are way behind on their mail outs.
Same thing when I went Life. It continues for too long in my opinion. Those that go Life can expect to be offered Patron memberships while the Life upgrade is still being processed. Just toss out the irrelevant stuff or what you don't want. Come to think of it, I was offered a special rate to go Patron only once after going Life. I've no clue what the fee may be now.

... but finances are not as strong as they once were in this economy, so if I can use the money for other things, I would like to put it off for right now.
I can't say how often or what time of the year any specials may be offered. I can tell you when I went from annual to Life Member 2 years ago, I wrote the check on 1/25/2010. IIRC I received the offer Dec 2009.

I dunno 'bout "deal of a lifetime", but it IS a killer deal. Will it be offered again? Who's to say - all I know is that I'd be all over it if I wasn't already "maxed out" on membership level.<G> Do I regret it? Not for a second - because the more members we have, the more attention we get in Congress. When someone walks up and represents 10,000 folks, and the next one represents 1,000,000.....who do YOU think has the most juice???

Remembering the efforts to pillage the 2nd Amendment for a long time by the lefties and now we have people in office that are more determined than ever to disarm Americans and make them into sheeple that they can control withour fear of an armed uprising to bring America back into the Glorious Nation that George Washington and the Founding Fathers envisioned and which GOD no doubt smiled down upon.

Our Constitution has been under fire from this present group ruling from Washington and it is most people's hope that the ballot box will soon cure the ills that sicken us, but....An enemy takeover whether gradual or like a storm may only be turned aside by Americans with Firearms !

And our only method presently to battle the spoilers is the NRA and it costs money ! Join today !

Dang, I'm on the fence with this one...
Well consider yearly membership is ~$30/yr. You plan on living longer than 10 more years? Then it's a deal!

I have a lot of gripes with the NRA, but overall I think they have our collective backs. Plus American Rifleman is a decent mag. Membership is worth it just for that.

There are other promotions also going on. I was already a Life member and upgraded to Endowment at a reduced price during this promo period.

I'm a pretty easy touch when a good cause comes asking for money.

'Grats, BE - been doin' the same myself, along with buying the kids' Life Memberships for 'em. I'm "maxed out" on my membership status, so figgered it was time to start them down the road, too. Figger we'll buy theirs, an' they can buy 'em for THEIR kiddo's. It's easier to afford as the kids grow and move out on their own, and I'd have given anything if my folks had done that for me - but hey, they had to raise FIVE of us!

Yep,I bought my son a Life Membership when he was 16. Upgraded it to Endowment when he turned 18. Both times were at these special prices.

I received an offer about a month ago to upgrade mine to Endowment for $250. Have until March 2 to decide.
