As suggested, Lonestar Gun Range with a trip to Black's (or another establishment) in Lockhart. Preferably while the weather is still cool. I leave the thread open for discussion of date and time. The only days that will not work for me are Mon and Wed. If we have to meet on a weekend that is fine but we will have to deal with more yahoo's. $23 buys the whole day at Lonestar. Rifle, Pistol, 22lr Steel Target Range, and a shotgun "trap" area. Lonestar charges $10 (on top of the daily fee) to load their throwers with 50 birds (yours) if anyone is interested in that.

Either. I'd prefer an afternoon so I don't have to take a whole vacation day.

It used to be a mud hole after a rain - Just FYI that Moonpie reminded me of.

That is true. Always a crapshoot. I was just out there last week and it was pretty dry but who knows what we'll get in the future.

    . I'd prefer an afternoon

That seems to be the consensus. Shall we say 2:00PM. Lonestar is open until 5:30PM so we should be good to get a few hours to putz around.

BBQ joint TBD by attendees the day of unless someone has a strong predisposition.

    My Lockhart ranking:
    1. Black's
    2. Smitty's (closes at 6PM)
    3. Kruez

For those that don’t know, there’s Black’s and then there’s Terry Black’s. Though Kent and Terry are related by grandparents and Terry headed Black’s until about 10 or so years ago, they are two completely different operations.

Black’s is the original location. When the split happened, it’s rumored Terry and the folks that supported him drug a wash tin of coals to the new location to keep the fire alive.

The original is brick pit, Terry’s uses offset smokers.

    Black's.

An Eon ago - used to go the Kreutz. Taking people from out of the country past the BBQ pits, knives chained to the table, etc. was kinda fun. When I was a wee lad, we used to get half a hog there. Once the family split, it's never been the same. Never been to Smitty's or Chisolm - you choose. Even marginal BBQ is BBQ!!!

Out of all the different locations we like Terry's in Austin the best. Kent's is good and the best bbq in San Marcos. Not sure which side of the family owns the Lockhart location. I've seen pics of both Kent and Terry's kids advertising for the Lockhart location.

There’s two Lockhart locations. Going in to town, that’s Terry’s first. Get downtown, that’s the original.

Anything outside of Lockhart is Terry Black’s. Confusing, but not unlike Louis Mueller’s.

Holy shit! Looks like they opened in Nov 2022. Excellent, one less thing to have to go into Austin for.

If the Lockhart location is as good as it is in Austin then they are easily my number one pick. I might have to go make sure before the range day.
