I had fun farting around with my Ruger BlackHawk 45 Colt, 4 5/8 barrel. Iron sights and 300 grain hard cast ticking along about 1100 fps. Never over a chrono so just guestimation. Tried some Corbon 325 gainers at an advertised 1300 fps but they were too violent in that short light gun.
100 yards was as far it ever went.

I was ringing silhouette at 50 yards probably 80% with this guy. It shoots better than my eyes too.
In the early days of IHMSA, where the targets go out to 200 meters, one of the major championships was won by a bullseye shooter with an unmodified Gold Cup. IIRC, it was the Eastern Production title in ~1978.

Great posture and stance……. O wait nobody can see shit.
I don't have video equip. I have an iPhone propped up against that block of wood you see at the beginning

You can see the shock wave from the shot in the upper left corner.

Posture and stance is fine as evidenced by the hit.

Handguns are more accurate than many folks realize. With practice, 100yds is VERY doable.

Heck, in Indiana a kid took out a thug at 40yds in a mall with a compact gun....

I am sure that was much more difficult than what I was doing standing around on an empty range.

I don't know if I could do it with the adrenaline pumping and a target shooting back....I pray I never have to find out!

20" target sans the wind the op was dealing with.

Keep up the good work with your son. I mean that sincerely.

I shot a bunch with my Dad...and not nearly as much as I wanted to or wish I could.

My favorite memories of Dad still involve shooting a pellet through a can.

Both of my boys love shooting and are pretty damn good at it - which makes me a proud dad. My oldest is the one who's obsessed with 100+ yard pistol shots.
