Not sure about exotics... but my buddy told me a TP&W biologist told him that we lost 57% of the deer population from the 3 months of 100+ degrees summer. My suspicion was confirmed. My deer population damn near disappeared.
I am hearing the same from land owners all through the hill country.

Has been described as a “Rebuilding Year” to put it in sportsball terms.

Far fewer deer in my area of west Bandera County than ever in 30 years.

So, my question is.... are they gonna curb tags next few years...?
TPDW will do their usual counts and publish what the " take" was. For a governmental agency they are pretty well run. If there is a need to adjust the tags, by all means they will address. They normally have hearing before any substantial changes are made. They have a fairly well-run web page and a monthly new letter. If you read the rules, white tail tags are set for each specific county. If there is a substantial die off in a county or multiple counties, they will address it.

Ok finished my beer (brain lubricant).

White tail deer have survived millennia in this country (Texas) and have adapted to natural claimant changes, drought, flooding, excessive heat and sub-zero temperature.

White tail even managed to survive a nasty case of Humans in the 1920s Once these vile and despicable wretches stopped market hunting, the white tail rebounded quickly.

Currently there is a viral threat called chronic wasting disease creeping down from the north. Some of the arguments now being considered; Did Human interaction cause it, do the Humans intercede, can it be curtailed, or will it run its course regardless, as other plagues have done.

I didn't realize Texas had deer outside of ranch deer.

Everything I came across outside a ranch looked more like a greyhound with antlers.
Incorrect( well body size you are correct, but lack of real winter plays a huge part in that ) but you can get some phenomenal antler growth on low fence if you cull trashy antlered deer and does.

    Good info. Thanks

Same difference... but I'm a mule deer hunter. Had a nice pocket of them on the property.
