Router(s) seem to have a pretty big impact. I went with the Eero mesh 3 router, not cheap but my speeds are advertised 300MB from AT&T (Fiber) and I get:

375 Down and 375 Up which is much better than I've had anywhere else I've lived

AT&T fiber, over 802.11ac WiFi (not theirs) to the laptop. Their bundled router is pretty decent, an 802.11ax (WiFi 6) device, but I don't own anything capable yet. That and I need to cover more area than it can reliably reach.

I am at 574 down and 22 up on to different servers. Frontier and ATT&T. Changed servers for testing as a control. This is all WiFi. Spectrum is my service if that is of interest. paying for 200 mbs.

I got fiber about 8 weeks ago. 1gig up and down. Love it so far.
I used to have my Spectrum internet go out for at least 10 minutes a couple of times per month. I've had zero outages so far.
I had fiber installed last week. Previous ATT line was slow when it worked. I usually had to use hot spot on my cell phone.

I'm just above dial up, dsl 50 mbps. Works for me so far. Fiber being installed around my area. They messed up our backyard by digging a hole that when settled was below grade. We used two 40 lb bags of topsoil to fill it in. Filed a complaint and got a check for $150.
