And not even close to expiration.
Albertson's/Safeway has their own branded beef could very well be to get it out of their warehouse.

When Safeway bought Randall's they didn't think Blue Bell had a big enough national foot print to keep it in the stores. Boars Head was dropped, Land O Lake Deli cheeses all kinds of crap.

People who shopped Kroger are in for a rude awaking. Hell Kroger jumped on Boars Head asap after Safeway got rid of them.

Well, in reality they are separate corporations, with neither having any ownership over the other.
Kroger is, however the largest grocery retailer in the nation.

Kroger will have steaks on sale at times and I've got $39 T-bones for $13 in the freezer I bought a few weeks back that were good. Kroger's issue is consistent quality and fat trimming at times. I can usually find cubed steak for dirt cheap in their reduced price section too.

HEB Frisco is just like Market Street. Consistent quality/trimming but way overpriced since HEB is no longer "new". They had some really good prices when they first opened but hard to find a good price now. All their steaks are over $10lb and I haven't seen any on sale for $6lb lately.

SIL works at HEB and gets 25% off meat. He was going to get my boneless chicken breast the other day and it was $4 then minus his 25%. I was at Kroger that day and they had it for $3 then minus $1 when you scan the coupon by the meat. So Kroger for $2lb and chicken is pretty much the same quality between those stores.

I remembere the ice packed Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast we use to get. A single bnls skills breast averaging 1.5 pounds. That crap was so pumped full of enhancement fluids, that folks didn't mind get pumped in dat ass! When I started cutting meat a 3 pound whole bird was what you looked for. Meat chickes do not live very long live before slaughter. I wonder what the feed them to make them the size of turkey hens? Then inject them full of salt water for added weight. Yeah Advertised Bulk Boneless Skinless Cicken Breast rock the savings.

Don't get me started on pork spare ribs! 3 downs were what were being sold in the eighties. Meaning a slab of ribs were 3 pounds or down. And I'm talk the spare rib complete, not Saint Loius ribs or baby backs. Remember Chili's Baby back Ribs with the catchy jingle? They were all imported from the EU. Poland insisted on pigs go to slaughter & 350 pounds. And Chili's imported ribs finally stopped around the time of Mad Cow, were livestock was being mass killed & buried.

Kroger card gets you alot of discounts. they even send out coupons tailored to your buying habits. yeah I know it's 'tracking' my data. share gas points with kids too. always look for 'managers specials'. never found that at other groceries. have a JoeV's [HEB] a mile farther, prices are usually higher even if advertised as the 'savings store'. Kroger even beats out Walmart of alot of stuff. so I clip coupons and keep going there.
