Its been 15 years since I went to a gun range, the one a few miles out South of Glen Rose, Texas...The Owner was a fine man, was pleasant to do business with and bought and traded firearms in the Office....He had gunpowder, bullets and brass and ran a good operation out there...

A pal and I went out there at least weekly and I miss that place but living out in the boonies these last 15 years I have been able to shoot everywhere but toward the highway out front and toward my neighbor's several hundred yards to the West....But neighbor has a little gun range for his own use and we test for accuracy onhis "Gun Sled" now and then....I feel for you city gun owners, been there, done that but you are where the jobs and money are and quick trips to other necessities.....I have to burn $4 a gallon diesel to get anywhere....like Brownwood, over 50 miles....Stephenville some 35 miles...Stephenville has a gun range and a dang good one, never used it...But bought a hell of a lot of guns there....

Well ranges are why when we moved to Tx was the of big reasons to pick the place we bought. Public ranges have people that run them or the rangemaster can range from a someone awesome to one that makes it miserable. I don't want to take chances. Then you have to look at it from the rangemasters standpoint. I have been shooting and the person a bit over is doing bump fire (waste of ammo and hits nothing) and I fear fro my life. At least this way I can shoot safely and not have to put up with those two things.

That old hag did the same to me today! I have not been out there in about 3 years, I usually go to Cedar Ridge (great place!!!!). I told her I would never come back. I am an avid shooter here in San Antonio for years and I have been to all the local ranges. I have never met such rude people in the industry before! Also, Bracken Range is a very unsafe place to shoot, its the place where all the "non-shooters" go. I go to all the local gun shows and I will make it a point to tell everyone I meet never to go Bracken Range. Cedar Ridge Range is the best in San Antonio!!!!

I'd go there just to pick up my own brass, other people brass, then look at her sideways, and then i'd videotape her reaction.

When I lived in SA I went there a few times. Never had anyone tell me anything. They usually stayed in the mobile home command center. And occasionally would come to the window to assist you. The manners there are pretty much non existant. I dont miss that place.

I hope to be moving out into the Adkins area, so the Bexar county range will be the closest to me. I'm not happy about that because I don't feel that range is maintained very well unless of course you're a skeet shooter (manicured lawns, bleachers and all that). Pistol and rifle shooters are 2nd-class citizens there.
Bexar Community Range (not County. The county doesn't own it)

That place is reloader Heaven, though. I've never been to a range with so much brass on the ground. There have to be literally millions of cases. A buddy of mine makes jewelry out of used cases- I brought him back a paper sandwich bag full of all brand new stuff!

I'm glad I wasn't there as it just would have gotten me into trouble. I never was a man who would take crap off of people but since retirement.........it elevated to a new level and I've turned into a junkyard dog! I just don't give a shit any more and if folks don't like me.........well.....you know.

TABOOMA is a nice response. "Take a bite out of my ass!" It makes me smile to think about you laying that on her! "Ban away, bitch, I'm outta here!"

Bracken is the only place I've been to with actual range-masters on the rifle and pistol lines (don't know about the shotgun stuff). I'm certainly not a "non-shooter" going thrpough 1000 rounds of 5.56 in a couple of months, and .45 ACP almost as fast. I've never personally witnessed any of the beahior you guys are talking about. I've seen them correct peope doin' stupid sh*t or breakin a range rule (like no shooting offhand on the rifle line), but I've seen that at other ranges too.

Of course, I get there early, shoot, and leave without scoopin' brass.

There's not any oversight on the shotgun lines, the times I've been there.

I'm perfectly happy with ranges where you self-police. It doesn't work if you have nothing but newbies and idiots, but one or two people who know what they're doing is all it takes to keep the line safe.

I would like some recomendations for good ranges on the North side of SA. I usually go to bracken because its convenient. But they never seem happy that they have business.

I would like to try Bullet Hole, but thats a drive.

What ranges do you recomend that are closer to me?
