Had my first (and last) negative experience at Bracken yesterday. I was out shooting my .45 and .40 on the pistol range and after going through about 200 rounds I was cleaning up to leave. I had been chatting with the three guys next to me and they saw me putting all my brass into my bag and asked me if I wanted theirs. I said sure and thanks. They swept up and dumped all their brass into my bag. I never even touched it. The woman that was serving as RM came over and jumped all over me about only taking my brass. Told her no problem, wasnt aware that was a rule there. Then she proceeded to jump all over me about asking for other peoples brass. I told her that I did not and would not ask for someone else's brass, not my style at all and all I got was a "if you do it again you will be banned from here"

I think I am banning myself from the place!

I go to Bracken and like shooting there, but that's a bit over the top. Range masters have no business telling people what they can/can't do when it doesn't affect safety or destruction of range property (or brass that isn't already in the brass collection bins). I guess I'm going to have to reconsider shooting there from now on.

I know the woman you're talking about, and she's a big part of why I won't go back. She's never jumped all over me (never gave her an excuse), but I've always been able to tell that it's right there waiting to be let out.

I actually have a thread on here about why I won't be back, either.

I was there shooting with TexasRedneck once and a guy next to me was shooting a sweet little decked out .22
Everytime that lady came by, she bitched and moaned "to herself" about how much she hates .22 shooters. Maybe because they can't reload'em or the large amount, lol. BUT, the guy was attempting to pick his up as he went. She was rude, I'm not a fan of that place.

I don't think I've ever heard more than one or two positive accounts of that place.
Just from the stories of other TGT'ers, I don't think I'd ever visit that range.
Even if it was down the street from my house and gave away free ammo and a blowjob!

    ...well - maybe the blowjob.

Sounds like the Bullethole, the same thing happened to a good buddy of mine who was yelled at by the female (I wouldn't stretch the definition of a "lady" in this case) who owns the place for picking up his own brass! He had an annual family pass there for several years, but not after that incident. Combined with the several bad experiences we had there (to include several safety violations that the staff refused to address), I won't set foot on that range again. Despite the dearth of good ranges in San Antonio, I will continue to drive longer distances to shoot at places that are safe and that respect the people who shoot there than to go places like Bracken and the Bullethole.

Considering the amount of bad press Bracken's been getting (accusations by neighboring communities of stray rounds hitting homes), you'd think they'd put a little more effort into treating those who shoot there a little better. I guess not, but they'll still be shocked when their business drops off when word gets out about such incidents!

I hope to be moving out into the Adkins area, so the Bexar county range will be the closest to me. I'm not happy about that because I don't feel that range is maintained very well unless of course you're a skeet shooter (manicured lawns, bleachers and all that). Pistol and rifle shooters are 2nd-class citizens there.

I don't think I've heard one good thing about bracken since I joined the forum. I also go to the bullethole and always get a private bay also usually, bay 7 or 8 its on the side of the range away from everyone else and u can drive right up to it. Actually I will be going there today when they open lol.
