    Happy Thursday Gentlemen!

A guy at work is interested in one of the inherited guns I got from our Pastor. I don't know much about these type of rifles and get a "general idea" of what they are going for, however the asking prices I see range from $1300 to $2600...not sure why. I very seriously doubt I will ever shoot this unit, unless it is just to try it out to see what it feels like, so thinking of selling it to him.

    What would make the difference between a $1300 1895GBL and a $2600 1895GBL?

I do appreciate your input regarding this.

This might be a custom rifle, big loop and shortened barrel but IDK. nice laminated and checkered stock. The 308 marlin express is NOT 308 win. it's based on the 307 win to be a more powerful than the 30-30.

    visit:

and also keep scan Gunbrokers for Marlins for sale. They have gone up recently now that no longer made. Older ones "JM" stamped are worth more than "Remlins" made after Remington took over the brand. looks to have a safety so likely a remlin, but if it's 'JM' stamped on the barrel it's a higher value gun. just fyi

308 Marlin Express is hard to find and a couple of bucks a round when you do............

No where near as popular as 45-70....and will not bring those prices......

45-70 is big bucks for that model... still, JM stamped is top dollar vs remlin. still try marlin owners forum for opinions

caliber is stamped on the left side of the barrel near the breech, look for a JM in a circle near there too.

Bought a guide gun; 18" bbl. Shot a friends just because he offered me the chance. Sold my guide gun unfired. Still have my 22" bbl H&R single shot. Wish I could still see the sights. Was told last week I'll have to lay off the shooting the big ones for at least a year after cataract surgery, maybe more at my age. anything that recoils even a little bit. Doc repeated himself twice. Firmly!

I have 2 marlins (gb & sbl) and the price has more than doubled when I bought them in '17 (actually won 1 in a raffle). 2600 for a gbl is too much, but due to hard to come by you might get that price? I've seen new sbl's from 1900 - 3000 and that's flat-out stupid price! For my gb it was just over 500 and the sbl was just over 900. Hard to come by makes price go way up for those who can't Wait!

Friend has one she inherited that she thought about selling. JM stamped in 45/70.

Told her $1300 seemed to be about right per my research but more than I'd spend on it.

    Always has, always will.

What do these initials stand for? (gb & sbl)
