Believe it or not it's how most of the world communicates with friends and family.

Boomers do for sure. Some millennials. IIRC others use instagram, tiktok, snapchat, et al.

I haven't used Facebook for 6 years now. I keep up with family the old fashioned way, I call them, or at the very least text. We sometimes go high tech and send e-mails with photos.

I wish. Everybody I know stopped using phone and email long ago... and I hate using text for real conversation... soooooo unwieldy and awkward.

Wow, no e-mail or phone anymore?

Fun fact: I actually used to work for Facebook. One of the reasons I stopped using it (besides moving on from the company) is because of how invasive the actual website is. Literally EVERYTHING is recorded from your web browsing behavior.

Yep. It was a bummer when friends and family quit using traditional comms and said if I wanted to "talk" to them, to do it on FB. :(

FB is a total PITA in so many ways. I've quit them twice, but can't get F&F to follow me elsewhere. So FB remains the big dog in that type of social website.

Nowadays, I take much pleasure from making jabs at Zuckphuck and his so-called Fact Chuckers. Also in posting news from TheBonginoReport.com.... I hope it drives them nuts. I'm expecting my next ban at any time!!!

In the process of cleaning a bit of the over-the-top mess from this thread.

ETA - Done. Maybe things can calm down, now. Here's hoping.
My point was to let it go as it would solve itself. Arkancide/temp or perm ban on its own.

    Just sayin. Sorry.

I understand. I just prefer people not earn bans. When an argument gets heated and I feel (based on absolutely nothing, I know) that the people involved would have rather not gone there, I'll just clean up.

Bans, temp or permanent, need someone to go very overboard right now or too far in a wide variety of circumstances.

Use a racial pejorative without even the pretense of a joke? Instant ban.

Be a dick in a thread? It gets cleaned up.

Be a dick all the time, everywhere? Warnings, temporary bans, and then a permanent one.

Years ago my wife insisted that my photography business had to have a Facebook page, so I hesitantly opened one.
My wife would post sample pictures from whatever horse show I was covering that week.
All this accomplished was people grabbing the sample picture, using it and not buying anything, so I stopped letting her post pictures.

Then all people from my past started sending friend requests and posting all kinds of crap.
It amazes my how otherwise decent people become PITA shit head when they sit down at a keyboard.

The other thing that really gets me is when people go out to eat. It used to be that friends and family would sit around a table waiting for their orders and carry on conversations. Maybe they still do but it's seems to be done by StupidPhone texting and Freakbook

Facebook,Twitter, and all the other social media sites are garbage.

I do realize that sites like this one are actually a form of social media too, but it seems that gun forums seem to have a little less childish behavior than I have seen on Freakbook.

I gave up having a personal Facebook, Twitter or YouTube when I watched a former co-worker get raked across the coals for using it to post about his views on life. Not necessarily political either but stuff about his divorce and the court system.

They basically put him on a PIP, and let him go 30 days later. So nope to all that.

    Only semi-anonymous from now on.

I signed up on FB several years ago and of course got so many friend requests from people I knew in high school in the 1960s. Was nice hearing from them and their pics didn't resemble them from back then, duh. A few exes in Texas friended me; they once thought I was a low-life SOB back then but I guess they came to their senses, got their hormones figured out, saw the light and suddenly wanted to be "friendly". I did reconnect with a friend I'd had since 1st grade all the way thru high school, we were inseparable, even dated two sisters in high school. Then he kept laying stripes in front of their house in his Dad's new Mustang and their mother made us all split up, awakening his parents late one night down the street to inform all of us. I hated him then and there because I was so in love, being a senior and in grief, I joined the Marines and went to 'Nam. We never connected again for 50 years until FB. We hooked up at a local restaurant we used to always hang out (best chicken fried steak in Dallas at the time), was just like old times as we hugged in greeting. Have texted every day since. He did ask me if I ever forgave him and of course said yes but took me 50 years until today, lol. He is now FB friends with the other sister, her sister, my l old flame, passed with cancer but saw her pics as she aged thru the years still very beautiful as in high school.

FB has its good side and there are other places to spout off about suff like divisive politics, etc. I'm no longer a member by choce.
