Increase 401k and Roth IRA contributions. Buy an old, used Mossberg 500 off the rack at GT. Take care of your savings, retirement, and transportation reserve account before you piss away money.

Tell your buddy’s dad you respect his choice. Ask him if he has a gun you can borrow.

good riot defensive guns are plentiful. mossberg, winchester, remington, older ithaca's.

was gifted a winchester sxp marine defender riot gun. its short, its handy, it has screw in chokes, and it is drilled and taped on the receiver for optics.....around $400

gun functions fine for me and prefer it over the 870 or 500. Have thought about a red dot on it but i do not have to deer hunt with a shotgun that is what the 30-30 is for.

Thanks for this, I’m I’ll probably skip getting a gun for this season and invest in my future unless I get a really good deal on one. Was looking at mossberg but lgs is taxing it a lil to much for what I think it’s worth

Mossberg Maverick 88 is a good shotgun for cheap if you can find one. It is a cheap version of the Mossberg 500 and uses the same parts except the action tube and foreend. I havent priced one in a few years but they were about 220 bucks at academy 3 years ago

I know, old thread, but new to me so here I go...

Any reason the Rem 870 Tactical Magnum is not mentioned?
Good size for Home Defense...not too long or too short...also not auto, which I can see as a little con.

It's a Remington. Great option if you like rust as a factory option
Hmm...I had mine for 10yrs purchased from an LEO, and never seen any factory rust or rust anywhere. So I really don't understand your statement about the rust.
Did you experience this "factory option" from a newly purchased 870 or is this something someone told you about?
Just trying to be clear about this, and not have any "disinformation".

Remington used better finishes on police magnums and older wing masters.

Buying a police magnum or old wingmaster is not the same as a big box 870.

And yes, i was present to see a gun shop i frequented rather often receive 8 870's come out of the box orange. This was close to 7-8 years ago?

Remington's insolvency is another reason to avoid

Ahh, the older models and LEO ones are good to go?
I guess that's why I don't see any rust in mine.

Thanks for the info, I don't own anything else made by Remington and I don't plan on to now. I'm more Sig, Springfield, CZ stuff and a couple of Kel-Tecs too.

I have a modern 870 security. It would rust bad if I didn’t oil it once and a while.

    I like 590a1’s without a ghost ring.

870 disassembly is king but the bolt release is truly at the perfect location with a 590.

Yes would make sense as police/Leo usually buy in larger numbers. But I saw an Ithaca riot gun at a local range, and absolutely love the corn cob grip and the feel of the action. For 600 I’m definitely considering it but am doing more research as I know very little about Ithacas
