Any sales on power for AR-15. I'm a new reloader and looking for power to start this new hobby of mine.
Check Hodgdon’s website, also Powder Valley, Midway, Brownells, Midsouth, etc. I see that you are in Waco, a while back I ran across a small gun shop east of 35 north of Waco. They didn’t have much at the time, but maybe now.

Agree with @Txmark as several of these on-line vendors have had powders that will work with .223/5.56 in the last few days. Would add Bruno Shooters supply, and Natchez to the "check regularly" list. I know that both (and a couple of these others) have had TAC in stock this week. Finally, I highly recommend joining the Discord server for in-stock notifications on whatever reloading supplies you are looking for. If you do that, just be prepared to jump on available stock the moment you get notified (grin).

    Good luck!!

@Txmark do you remember off 35 where you might of gone? I did check the online stores and they are move expensive. I will keep my eye open on those sites. Is there a certain Reloading Discord server for reloading? I never thought that about.

MidSouth shooters supply has several powders available for .223 right now. I saw CFE223 and H335 and they had Tac available too I think.

Thank you guys again for all the info... I really appreciate all the help. One more thing. I was reading online about reloading books.

A lot of people like Lyman reloading book but also Lee Precision reloading book. My wife bought me the Lee one but now I'm thinking should I get the Lyman as well. Most of my reloading stuff is Lee.

I just want to make sure my first reloading is good plus safe. What do you guys think?

I bought multiple books. Some don't always have the info you need I have found. Not every book has every load you could ever want. Depends a lot on your components to some extent. Bullets, powder and primers used. I started off with some used older editions I found on Ebay for not much money ($20 for 5 books). Bought a few more since then.

I've got an older, 49th or 48th edition sitting around here. If you want it, let me know. I get down to Waco fairly often.

I know (it seems like most of) the young folks say you don't need manuals and that everything is on the internet and demonstrated on YouTube.

I'd prefer to have a wall full of paper manuals. There's so much to discover there. They're not just reference books. Most of them have extensive articles on company history and other subjects as well as the best-written how-to articles for almost every reloading task.

I even like the giveaway manuals provided by bullet and powder manufacturers. I picked up a free Vihtavuori manual at the NRAAM and it's impressive for just a bit of free advertising merch. And I don't even have any Vihtavuori powder in inventory!

I guess I'm just an old guy with an old-fashioned approach to information storage, at least when it comes to reloading.

I cruise through Half Price Books and Goodwill when I have the opportunity. Many times people sell the older books from estate sales. The old reference material comes in handy at times.

The more books the better. I have the Lyman and Hornady. I also have load data from several powder vendors such as Western, Hodgdon & Alliant.

One thing I will add, be somewhat leery of older reloading recipes as powder formulations can change over time. If possible. verify with newer recipes you can find in established publications.

Be also careful about using recipes you find on random internet forums. That can be done in time once you've gained experience and an understanding of who is posting this information but you have to be very cautious.

That's the thing about bullets I get confused about. That's why I was thinking of getting another book as well.
    I bought a box from X-Treme bullets 223-55gr. FMJ.

When I look in the Lee book I go to the 223 section under the 55gr. I see

    Grain Jacketed bullet
    Grain Frangible
    Grain Solid bullet
    Grain Barnes X Solid Bullet

From those 4 options, I would think it would be the first one right? ( Grain Jacketed bullet )
Don't mean to advertise but I just want to make sure I have the correct load info.

here's the link to the bullet

Yes, grain jacketed is the one you'd want. The important things are to match grain and composition (solid copper, plated, jacketed, lead etc).

    What powder are you using?

That's the magic question... I haven't found one yet. From reading and looking online they are very expensive...
Not sure which one to get. I have a list

    H335
    AA2230
    CFE223
    H4198
    Varget Rifle powder
    Alliant AR-Comp#1

H335 and CFE223 are both available from Powder Valley. Both $32.50/lb + shipping and Hazmat.
TAC, H335, AA2230, and CFE223 available from Midsouth. $31-$33/lb + shipping and Hazmat.

All will work for your loads, especially as you are just starting out. Pick one and carefully work up a load using reference data from a published manual (start low). Don't expect to land on the perfect powder/load right out of the gate. You will learn a LOT in the beginning. Once you are comfortable with loading bottleneck cartridges for your rifle (specifically), you can always go back to optimizing for whatever parameters you want, including comparing powders.

    Good luck!
